There are few other some people might find odd like "Georgie pordgie pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them cry..."
"Tell tale tit, your tongue shall be slit and All the Dogs in the Town Shall Have a Little Bit "
**
"there was an old woman who swallowed a fly....perhaps she'll die"
**
"hey diddle diddle.....the dish ran away with the spoon"
Ha ha - this one gets worse actually!
*There was an old woman who swallowed a horse,
She's dead—of course! *
It’s a rhyming word for goodness sake! Youse try making up nursery rhymes! :grrr:
I honestly don’t see why it’s such a huge deal. I have parents complaining about the some very very silly things(how often do I sharpen the pencils in my classroom as little Johnny didnt get to use the colour green in his drawing of his face yesterday and therefor did not eat his fish fingers), but not once have I ever had a parent complain about nursery rhymes. I shall quit the day I do.
Nursery rhymes reflect the history of the times they were written in. Like Three Blind Mice is about Mary I killing Protestants and Ring a Ring of Rosies is about the Bubonic Plague.
