^ I agree. The kids really just enjoy the rhymes and sing their hearts out, while we adults try to decipher the sinister messages behind the poems.

I picked up a book of Muslim nursery rhymes from ICNA this year.. I cant wait to read those to my lil one inshaAllah!!!

They are all based on the traditional nursery rhymes just with a touch of islamic names and words!!I need to read them to see if they are pretty much the same theme or not.. dont remember much!

Whats wrong with our desi nursery rhymes? I havent sung any of the western stuff to midget… Justgood ol desi yum. Our rhymes arent at all dark and dreary. :snooty:

allah allah kerthi thi (or is it anna anna kerthi thi / kertha tha)? i use both lol
ghee ke papar thal thi thi /tha
ghee ke papar huay tamam
munna raja / munni rani kare araam.

hareem.. how does bulbul ka bacha go? i have forgotten that one...

mom used to sing them to us when we were kids... and she continues to do so with midget.. so relearned them...

P.S…I think I messed up the last few lines but it is sth like this.

My daughter loooooved ‘lakri ki kaathi’ and ‘nani teree morni ko moor lay gaye’ when she was younger…not anymore though.
There was a time when these two used to work like a charm to put her to sleep or sooth her…:smiley:
These days it is ‘baba black sheep’..I sing that for atleast a total of one hour a day…:bummer:

This was the exact one E loved a few months ago.You can youtube them.There are so many others there.
Of all the ‘nani teri morni’ videos out there,this was the one we watched like a million and one times…:smiley:

LOL I don't know desi nursery rhymes but I asked my husband if he knew them and he proceeded to sing 'lakri ki kaathi' and is now teaching me all the ones he knows.

nothing...just ignore my comment...i was thinking since the classic English rhymes are so horrible we might as well stop using English all together but it doesn't make sense so ignore it.
