Horn Honking

People like honking their horns in Pakistan and I don’t see this dying out just yet. What - if anything - should be done about this?

People in pakistan are not patient enough. They wont give way ever to anyone. Everyone needs to change. Maybe its because it gets too hot there but still that is no excuse.
It's hard to drive in the cities because of the road rage everyone has.

Take it for granted, Mr Extreme. A lot of other things happen on the streets of Pakistan which will not die out anytime sooner. If you are having problems living with that, may i suggest some good quality ear muffs?

:hehe:

well those ear muffs would have to be airport standard to make any difference Cheegum pal.

I don't say it's a bad thing to honk horns. Especially in Pakistan where no one drives in a straight line. They all wiggle in and out of tiny gaps so honking becomes more important I guess.

hey now sometimes u hafta honk the horn. Even in US..where the roads are better (even though they still suck)

here are a few situations. I honked my Horn

1) I am in a turnign lane.. the guy in front of me is trying to pick something up from the passenger side or getting something out of his glove box. I am just sitting beind him while Indiana Jones is still searching for the Holy grail. Finally I honked at him to get going.

2) I recall a few montsh back some lady in front of me was doign makeup in a traffic jam, cars start moving, and she is still putting something on her eye..I wait patiently for a good 10-15 seconds and then honk to which she gestures to wait. huh? wait..

some idiots deserve to be honked at

I dont have the patience to drive in Pakistan so I dont. as long as i have a driver or a cab, I am good to go.

its not just the roads, its people behaviors in general, not only driving. they will not give way or wait for green light with patience. everyone try to beat the que, jump the signal, try to speed. Horn in Pakistan doesnt mean horn, it means I am here, get off the way!

People needs to change attidtude in general, its not only driving!

There is no driving like driving in Pakistan. Please do not insult pakistani driving if you are not up to the challenge. Angoor khattay hain, and so is the steering wheel.

Insult? the conditions and roads are horrible. Its not a question of being up to the challenge its a question whether the challenge is worth taking.
dunno why ppl take stuff so personally. I dont see newyorkers get offended when you say NYC driving is a pain, or californians get defensive when you talk about their congested freeways.

angoor khatay naheen hain :) but their is a chip on a shoulder somewhere

Maybe by applying a ticket everytime the coaches blow their 'soors'. It's horrible, especially when the half-intoxicated bus drivers press the horn button (mashed up wires connected to a red point) and then forget to take their freaking finger off. What's more annoying is that the horns (latest ones) are tuned to sound like the ambulance sirens.

The other day, I observed the traffic police stop every third bus to get some moolah off the drivers for not having their license or for allowing males in the ladies compartment. If they want, they can apply the same rules to the terrible honkers because no matter what the speed is, the bus drivers manage to stop immediately if the guard flags em.

There was a heading in the paper about new transportation services soon to be available purchased from east-asian countries.

As for the cars, driving in the correct lane without having the need to overtake every two seconds may help lower the honking rate but that's something that may take time, lots of time.

Any good honking tunes these days? Ambulance sirens is a bit lame, I would have expected a few better ditties by now :grumpy:

In Lahore, people only honk to either get attention from a passerby, usually a girl, or warn others that their brakes don’t work. Next time your hear a honk in Lahore, get the hell out of their way.

hey i have heard "la cucaracha" tune horns in LA and Chicago :) mayeb its a brown thing

Ain't nuthin but a B' Thang baby..

I always thought it must be fun to drive in Karachi.

I'm up for it...but my family doesn't trust me driving a car in Pakistan...something about me going off into daydreams while driving....

I think its kind of fun and thrilling taking a bus ride in pakistan rather than driving a car(personally i wouldn't survive a one mile in busy bazar in pakistan :D )

honkin bit is fun if you are settin just behind the driver in bus every time he honks you know either he is telling some tonga driver to bug** off or its oneof his maty in other bus which wizzed pass honking......if its not then some lady must have caught mr driver's eye doin shoppin on the road side rarhiz.

specially setting on the roof top doubles the fun :D

a few times when i honk.

(1). 3 lanes on highway. right and the middle are moving fast but there is this idiot in the left lane who is driving below the limit and he has a long line of cars behind him.

(2) when a woman is on her cell phone and trying to drive at the same time. FOR GOD SAKE, COME ON!!!!

(3) when someone is being a smart @$$. that's when my lane is slow and the lane on my left or right is faster but after a while it exits the highway, and someone on that lane comes from the back cutting all the cars and suddenly tries to get infront of me.

(4) when the traffic light turns green and people still don't move even after 5 seconds. usually women are doing their make up.

(5) when someone is trying to make a U turn or just making a right or a left turn in some street, and they are going fast but when they are about to make the turn, they almost stop and the whole line has to stop. THEY GO BELOW 20MPH while turning. trust me, 20 mph is very slow when you are trying to make a turn.

Shikra

dude...man I dinn know more ppl felt like this..whats with people who get in a friggin philospohical discussion with themselves about what a greem light means..I mean move it already. the first 4-5 cars move at a asnail's pace, the second car wont start until teh first car has crossed the intersection, and towards the end its bumper to bumper 6 cars trying to beat teh yellow light..shyt aint right bro.

arghhh...and driving after rush hours in the morning is no picnic either, the entire membership of AARP is out in their boats swerving left right and center on the roads...

and always..always some idiot desi in some idiot corolla driving 10 miles below the speed limit in the fast lane...

yeah i know.......and those people who drive very slowly when the light turn green, because of them, the light turns red again ONLY AFTER 4 OR 5 cars pass. this is so annoying. i mean come on!!! you might not be in a hurry and have no life, but other people do!!!! and if you honk at them, they look at you as if you are a moron and they have done NOTHING!.

shikra

how about the breed of jackasses that enter an intersection fully knowing that up ahead there is a traffic jam and they wont be able to cross the intersection. and then the light turns greean for the oncoming traffic where you are, and the jackass is jhust blocking the intersection, sitting there looking straight ahead cuz /he knows he screwed up and dunn have the guts to meet someone's glare..sometimes they act oh so innocent and start toying with the radio. by the time they go..you light is just getting ready to turn red.

I dunno where these ppl get their licenses froml corn flakes boxes maybe..who knows

yeah, i forgot that one. it's really annoying when you are just sitting there and watching your light turn red. now you have to wait for a long time again. same with the buses. here in my city, there's no seperate lane for buses or buses don't have a little extra room on the stops so that the traffic can pass. so if you are behind a bus, you are studk cuz he'll be driving slow and keep stopping and the people in the other lane don't let you enter their lane.
