Hopelessness

I was reading a book by Herb Cohen and came across this passage that reflects Pakistani society as well as the world in general.

When people in a society believe they can’t as an individual make a difference its bad for all. Powerless people become apathetic and throw in the towel, which means other have to carry them on their back, or they become hostile and try to tear down a system they can’t understand or believe they can’t control. This attitude pervades our world and some of its symptoms are decreased productivity and senseless violence
