hookah

Salaam all,

I recently found out that hookah is haram in islam and that it is very dangerous to your health. I have been smoking for the past four years and now I am ready to quit. I am 25 years old and I dont want to waste my life like this. I can feel the bad effects on me, like trouble catching my breath and chest pains. Since I am a female, I also know how harmful this can be in the future if I want to start a family. I am having a hard time quitting, can someone please offer me some advice. I will pray from the bottom of my heart that Allah swt give you swaba for your guidance inshallah. Please help your sister. JAK.

[mod] Folks,
Since there are two versions of this thread open, let’s focus the Life1 thread on advice on how to quit hookah. Whether it is haraam or makrooh can be discussed here: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/religion-and-scripture/590830-hookah-in-islam.html [/mod]

Re: hookah

Its haraam?

Or mukhroo but there are diff opinions

Re: hookah

get shisha patches :/

Re: hookah

you smoke a hookah daily? 0_o

where do you live?

Re: hookah

Well since harming your body is forbidden, hookah should be haram. If you're addicted you should find out what substances are used in sheesha, and see if patches will help.

Re: hookah

so then candy is haram too?
and fast food?

:smack:

Re: hookah

Sheesha is the greatest invention of the Arab world and most definitely not Haram. Unhealthy yes. Haram no.

Re: hookah

Lol Arab worship much? You are instructed to avoid anything that harms your body. I'm sure someone can dig up the appropriate verse or you can go look it up yourself. Even if it's not explicitly mentioned, tobacco and the chemicals in hookah and cigarettes are far more harmful than alcohol.

Re: hookah

You think avoiding candy and fast food because of religion is ridiculous, yet I’m sure you’d be one of those people that would avoid the same candy if it contained a chemical derived from alcohol.

Re: hookah

You do realize by that same token red meat, Monsanto GMO food products, exercise, milk etc could be considered harmful for your body when reading the appropriate verse. Over indulgence in red meat leads to heart conditions, uric acid and what not. So by your comments we shouldn't even have a steak every now and then.

Balance is the key to life. That includes when reading and interpreting verses of the Quran.

Re: hookah

Except tobacco has no benefits, is addictive, and only causes harm to your body. It's worse than alcohol, just look at the number of people it kills every year: more than any other drug combined. Justify your behaviour however you want.

Re: hookah

My contention is not whether tobacco has benefits or not. My contention is your incorrect interpretation of a Quran verse to prove a personal point of view. There are a million things in this world that can be considered harmful when not dealt with in moderation. Does that mean that Quranic verse applies to all of them?

And if we are to enter the realm of religion, scholars have already decided its Makhroo, because it is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran as being Haram, nor did the Holy Prophet (SAW) deem it so. So it considered harmful and its best to be avoided. However it is not haram.

Re: hookah

Getting high over a Hookah ?? Seriously !!! . . . which pind you live in bro. ?

Plus it can't be bad . All babay in my pind use it and they are no where near dying .

hookah

Have you tried Nicotine patches or gum? They tend to fill your cravings without the effects of smoking.

Other than that fasting might help control your cravings, as long as you dont overdo it at iftari.

Re: hookah

Try quitting through physical exercise and what everyone said.

I’ve never had a substance abuse problem, but I’m guessing that quitting is all about distracting yourself while you’re craving the drug. As long as it isn’t anything serious like opiates.

Exercise is a great distractor and it motivates you to take better care of your body.
Exercise Will Help You Quit Smoking

Re: hookah

Sup!. I do hookah but without tobacco. If ya do with tobacco then...it is quiet harmful. Try only flavoured ones yo.

Re: hookah

i dunno exactly i heard it was just not liked in islam but not forbidden. Anything that harms the body is. But as a undergrad doc i would say quit hookah it really harms the lungs.
