Guys there is honour killing in every desi household (may be in every house). There are different types of killing ofcourse-

a) physical murder -- honour killing as the person who posted has mentioned.
b) soul's murder -- when someone takes your soul away.
c) heart's murder -- when someone kills every single thing that your heart desire.

Soul and heart's murder depend on individual's feelings towards the loss.

We all know several people who gave up their love because of family's honor - heart or soul murder will fall in this category.

-i ask myself this question -- why do parents forget that they would have to answer for their deeds. the heart ache they give to their child/children can sometimes be so deep that it can change their life forever. (har insan se pooch ho gi)

Whenever I read a thread which begins with the phrase “what do you think of…”, i.e. “what do you think of honour killing”, "what do you think of jahez’', “what do you think of falaan dhimkaan”…I feel so tempted to say something like “I highly approve” of it. Don’t know why:hehe:

Anyway, honour killing is a horrendous crime against humanity. Unfortunately, women are mostly the weaker and most suppressed segement of society..hence they are victims of it more frequently then men.

Interestingly enough, most of the honour killings aren’t even done for the sake of honour.Honour is merely used as an excuse. A couple of years ago, I helped translate this book dealing with feminist issues and there was a very detailed study of karokari. Apparently, men use honour killing as an excuse to: get rid of a wife,or any ‘undesirable’ female family member. To settle scores with their rivals…i.e. they claim that so and so is having an affair with this member of my family, so that they have an excuse to kill him. Poor women are merely scapegoats. Then there were cases where some men accused men of defiling their honour,killed their own women and claimed some sort of ransom for it.

AND there were cases where women were accused of zina so that they could be killed, and men could usurp their land or property. So, you see that ‘hounour’ is a convenient scapegoat.

Of course, there were cases where people were driven by a ‘genuine’ belief that their honour was at stake. Sadly enough, even if a women gets raped or assaulted, it is she who has to suffer the consequence, whether she is guilty or not.

I remember when we were holding a workshop in the inner city(androon Lahore), and the ladies there told me of a very very sad incident.** There was a four or five years old young girl who had been molested by some sicko,and her own parent’s tried to kill her…first by hitting her on head with a brick.And then by trying to get a doctor to give her some poisonous injection!I felt sick for many days. **How can parents do this to their own child. But people do this a lot of the time. We have a very funny notion of honour culturally speaking. That might be because we equate virginity with piety. i.e. a woman who has been raped is ‘tainted’, and is not good because she is no longer ‘pure’. Never mind the fact that it was not her fault.

There should be stricter punishment for people who commit this kind of heinous acts.

^ Parents who try and kill off their daughters to protect their 'honour' should get the death penalty imo. I remember seeing some film where the Sikh girls were being told to jump down the well (or pushed when they refused) to commit suicide to save their honour cos the Muslims were coming (it was during the Partition). People would rather their daughters were dead than be around to 'shame' them :(

I agree with you on this.

Although this is not the only way that some parents kill their daughters, or force them to die. What about the cases where something bad happens, and the parents want to hush it all up?What about the cases where their daughters have miserable lives/marriages, but they must not speak, as that will tarnish the honour of the family?What about those parents who think that the most important consideration in the world is to think, 'log kya kahein ge'. Never mind what your own child has to go through, in order to avoid others talking about them.

Honor killings are such a depraved crime. And the ignorant fools who engage in honor killings are so far removed from even the most BASIC teachings of Islam. It's bad enough when non-muslims try to portray Islam in a negative light. But it's 100 times WORSE...when so called "Muslims" make their faith and the rest of the Muslims in the world look bad. And this only provides fuel to those who are deliberately out to defame Islam.

Our religion has encouraged men to show mercy and kindness to their wives and daughters. There is so much reward in the after life for fathers who bring up their daughters with kindness and fulfill their responsibilities toward them. BUT such INGORANT fathers are depriving their own selves of blessings and mercy.

It is said that on the Day of Judgement, Allah SWT won't even look at the father who buried his daughter alive. Instead he will ask the female child, "What was your crime?" This is to illustrate that Allah will be so disgusted with such a father that he would rather question his daugther instead. If this is how Allah will treat those who are guilty of burying their dauthers alive.........one can only imagine how Allah will treat fathers and brothers who engage in "honor killings".
