Re: Hong Kong Cricket sixes 2007
**Jones called in for Sixes event **
Former England wicket-keeper Geraint Jones will join an All-Star team at the Hong Kong Cricket Sixes this weekend.
Jones has been drafted in to replace Shahid Afridi, who is playing for Pakistan against South Africa.
Shane Warne captains the All Stars, who include his compatriot Glenn McGrath plus West Indian legend Brian Lara.
Three groups compete in a round-robin decide the last eight, playing five-over per side matches with all the five fielders bowling one over each.
In another quirk of the rules for this tournament, any player reaching 31 runs is required to retire “not out,” but can return if the team are bowled out before the end of the innings.
Also, if a team’s fifth wicket falls before the completion of their five over allocation, the remaining not out batsman may continue and take all the strike, with final batsman out acting as a runner.
The final will comprise five eight-ball overs per side.
England, four times winners of the event, which was first played in 1992, have been drawn in the Bradman group with India and New Zealand.
The squad consists of Darren Maddy, Luke Wright, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Tim Bresnan, Kabir Ali, Alex Gidman and Steve Davies.
The Sobers group features the All-Stars, plus South Africa, Bangladesh and Australia, while Pakistan, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka contest the Cowdrey group.
Jones, 31, said: "Any time you have the chance to play on a team boasting such players it is very exciting.
“I cannot wait to have a crack at this style of the game alongside some of the biggest names in world cricket.”
The Hong Kong Cricket Sixes takes place from 27-28 October at the Kowloon Cricket Club.
