Honest question to Pakistanis here

Re: Honest question to Pakistanis here

I must say that extremism is rampant in some overseas Pakistani circles. Several reasons:

  1. In some countries, Pakistani expats tend to be from less educated "paindoo" sections with rural background and closed minded view. They tend to get isolated and the more isolated they get, the more extremist views they hold. Some UK Pakistani communities exhibit this tendency for example

  2. The farther you are from the spear tip, the more romantic the notions of "jihad" appear to be. That is why it is easy for someone sitting in Sydney to gloss over bad acts of the Taliban and focus on the their "true Islam" side

  3. Self-denial has been ingrained among some of us. That is why we see people even here on GS defend the Taliban but say "RAW agent" or "fake Taliban" when the Talibans do something inhumane or indefensible

  4. Some teenagers say stuff to provoke people. In Pakistanis, this means that some of these burger-eating, rap-music listening kids embrace extreme ideas just to get a reaction from others. See the various Pakistani military related chat sites and you will find that many of the people there are just teen aged kids.

You just exposed your own ignorance :hehe:

As indicated by many others, you are hanging out in wrong circle or you are just exaggerating your observations like Fox news in US.

Re: Honest question to Pakistanis here

how can someone convince you to come to path of peace and unity navid?

you know that taliban have had encounters with shias and now you are on a counter gihad. you believe the people who dont support the WOT in afghanistan are alq operatives and terror sympathisers. you believe the hazaras are not like other afghans, the hazaras are civilised innocents in the land of warlords!?when the taliban came to power they faced resistence in almost every area. the resistence was afghan in nature and so was the talib response!

you knew saddam had killed shias (d cheney told you so in the early nineties) and you supported the iraq invasion and despised saddam.

forget about what pakistanis are thinking, just take the strings off your arms and try to figure out what you think first!

Re: Honest question to Pakistanis here

There are more sympathizers than the majority of muslims would like to admit, or probably even know about.

Why do people sympathize with the Taliban and other such organizations?

  1. It probably is the company you are keeping - most muslims do not support terrorists. Our own innocent people are dying like flies because of these people.

  2. Problems in the northwest region of Pakistan where these "Taliban" and other organizations are operating from are not allowing much press to come in and really investigate what's going on. A few reporters get in, and even then, who knows how they're being brainwashed or things are being hidden from them. So the muslim population worldwide doesn't have a good visual conception of what's going on and what these Taliban are doing. All they know is they're aiming guns at Americans who are in turn, aiming guns at muslims in Iraq and Afghanistan, and therefore, that makes them heroes. Unless you're reading daily newspapers and talking to people who might have family in Swat and FATA and other such areas, you really do not know what is going on in these regions. The people who have fled these areas can only tell you what they saw before leaving, not what is going on right now. So muslims have quite a bit of information hidden from them, and the muslim media has done a really bad job of illuminating these people for their crazy crimes against humanity (possibly, because they're afraid of being killed in their sleep).

  3. Education. Most muslims are not very educated (many here will scoff at this), but given where the bulk of muslims live around the world, and their educational and economic opportunities, muslim civilization is quite behind. As a result, high illiteracy means they can't even read/interpret the Quran. Therefore, they don't understand fully that to achieve stability for your Ummah (community), it is not appropriate to go out on killing rampages, and that there are rules to Jihad and circumstances under which it is done, thereby making the global jihad movement by Taliban, Al Qaeda and other organizations completely illegitimate.

  4. Psychology. Its always easier to ignore a problem or go along with it, than fight it. Natural human impulse, that obviously, we as a community need to overcome.

Re: Honest question to Pakistanis here

This is not really a constructive discussion.

Then my life is complete!

Re: Honest question to Pakistanis here

And... What if some people do support taliban... everyone has a right to an opinion.... and USA supported Taliban for a decade!

not all endorse them . but there is a problem with the people living outside the country. they are actually in identity crisis. they dont know whether they should associate themsleves with the Australians (or Americans or British, if you prefer), or Pakistanis or Muslims. they want to keep their identity and dont want to mix with the foreigners. so that leaves Pakistani or muslim identity. and then they prefer the muslim identity since there are numerous muslims as compared to pakistanis.
the next step is to do things that would make them feel like muslims. and since they dont have much knowledge about islam, they turn to the TV and the only thing they see most is Talibani islam. thus they approve their actions.
there are other reasons too but i think this one will suffice.

I used to support Taliban (Afghani Taliban that is), but that was because there was no media coverage in Afghan back then. Now that they have shown their colors in Pakistan (and exposed by media) I know who they are, I don't support them.

Re: Honest question to Pakistanis here

the fate of the taleban should be or should have been decided solely on the basis of who committed 911. if they did host obl who then went onto arrange international terror from afganistan then yes some amount of military intervention and justice must be brought to the regime.

otherwise they are just 'normal' afghanis, and should be (should have been) left alone and left to heal naturally. this is the sentiment you may see from pakistanis, taleban have no ideollogies to teach us.
