Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
Discrimination from what? Homosexuality is not a physical trait but a behavior. In order to discriminate against it, it has to be manifest in public. So no, you're talking about imposing a point of view using an inflamatory rhetoric invoking a historical movement.
Now, careful...if you suggest that all signs of hetrosexual relations be removed from public...I'm likely to agree!
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
are you saying no more identifying with your significant other in public is an option?
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
Are you kidding me? Relationships of all kinds are manifested in public all the time.
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
...for arguments sake, sure. No more identifying (or rather, interacting) with your significant other (assuming your monogomous :-) ) in public.
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
We’re focusing on those which identify a particular sexual habbit.
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
good luck getting that approved as the norm in any society.
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
Actually, it's quite common in some Eastern societies (Muslim, Indian, Chinese to some extent).
Anyhoo...back to the point...how does that compare to say the treatment delt to African-Americans pre-civil rights era? Is that a comparison you really want to invoke?
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
Discrimination, you missed that didn't you.
Re: Homosexuality and punishment of Qaum-e-Lut
Recently this new research came out, that homosexuality may be because of genes. Experiment on fire-flys showed that when scientists changed a gene, the firefly was attracted towards fireflies of same sex, giving rise to the theory, that homosexuals may have different kind of genes which attract them towards people of same sex.
So, the discussion amongst some friends was that if homosexuality is due to genes then why did Qaum-e-Lut was punished by Allah, as explained in the Quran?
One argument presented was that for gays, homosexuality may be out of their control and they have no control over their feelings, so naturally they should should not be punished.
The counter-argument was that, #1 its not conclusive if homosexuality in human beings is due to genes, and it may just be an acquired deviant behavior (i.e. bad and biased research to justify a deviant behavior). And #2, even if someone's genes make that person do deviant behavior (homosexuality, in this case), the person could still be punished in the hereafter for the misdeeds. For example, if some research claims that murderers have a genetic problem which makes them kill people, they will still be punished for acting upon such impulses. So, same is true for homosexuals.
Any other ideas, opinions, thoughts?
medical speaking it was first considered as a psychiatric disease till 1976 DSM III.
