Homeopathic doctor

I have noticed that in India and Pakistan , people who have done homeopathic courses put “Dr” next to their names ..

is this degree considered equavalent to MBBS internationally?

Re: Homeopathic doctor

i wouldnt know but i asked hubby and he said simply no...

Re: Homeopathic doctor

nope

Re: Homeopathic doctor

Nope

Re: Homeopathic doctor

so how come the homeopaths get to put a Dr next to their names in Asia? is it purely their imagination and nobody stopping them .. its misguiding though at a major level :naraz:

Dunno, in US since 2010 chiropractors can use a Dr title as long as they don't hide that they are chiropractors.

As far as Pakistan goes I believe there was some legislation barring them from using the DR title a couple of years ago

Re: Homeopathic doctor

No.

In pakistan those people do homeopathy who can't even pass 12th grade.

There is a law being considered, which would put an end to these fake doctors etc.

Re: Homeopathic doctor

Good move, they should not be allowed to play with people's health and make false claims of treating everything 'without surgery' etc.

Re: Homeopathic doctor

In india one can put Dr next to his name if he has bachelors degree in homeopathy, ayurved and unani...even one having diploma in naturopathy can put dr. next to his name.....

lot of ayurvedic and homeopath practitioners used to practice allopathic medicines.....even lot of ayurvedic doctors posted in primary health centers run by state governments....where no MBBS doctors ventures to live......

you may call them quack but they are still backbone of basic indian medical services...lot of homeopaths and doctors are still employed as doctors in in private hospitals.....they are quite helpful in a country like india with population above 1 billion and limited MBBS doctors....

Re: Homeopathic doctor

The whole issue with this “Dr” Quack thing is that people can get misguided easily . Specially the less educated families who wont know the difference between MBBS qualification and a mere diploma …

I get really confused when people in Pakistan claim , XYZ is a doctor .. and its not until later when you find out its a homeo diploma they have .. Its just not fair on the MBBS qualified people , who spend years or blood and sweat to get a decent degree and spend a lifetime of sitting difficult and competitive exams all through their life to work in a proper Doctor role … and here , any tom and harry gets up and puts Dr next to their name :nessy:

I hope that law comes soon ..

Re: Homeopathic doctor

What about optometrist and pharmacist? I've seen many of them adding Dr. as well .. in UK and Pak. Are they entitled to do that?

Re: Homeopathic doctor

in India, their are specialized colleges that give out degrees in Homeopathy and they are entitled to add prefix of DR to their names.

AligaRh Muslim University has a separate campus for unani medicine...the degree is called "BUMS [Bachelor in Unani Medicine and Surgery"] which is equivalent to a MBBS degree.

Sweetmoi, yes they are.

Re: Homeopathic doctor

Pharmacist don't use the suffix DR as their title because they are not doctors who can write prescriptions...Dentists and Optometrists YES...they do write DR in front of their names.

Re: Homeopathic doctor

Off course if anyone is phD can write Dr. as well. Pharmacy had PharmD schools/education.
