Like a true hash? or the patty looking ones?
Re: Home made hash browns
It is really quite easy. I have made it many times and do it as follows:
- Peel and grate potatoes into a bowl of cold water.
- Rinse for a bit and drain.
- Add fresh cold water and leave it aside.
- Add butter/oil to pan.
- while the oil heats, take a couple of spoonfuls of grated potatoes, drain and squeeze all extra water using paper towel or muslin cloth
- fry it till its crispy; season with salt ( and pepper )
- drain the excess oil and serve.
Never tried the patty coz my kids love them as crispy little sticks.
Let me tell my version of quick hash brown. Bake a potatoe in microwave. Take it out (and peel or not based on what texture you like), and slice it in about gold coin thickness pieces. Medium heat pan, spray the oil, and fry both sides of your sliced pieces till golden brown.
Spread on your plate, place a half fried egg on top, seasoned with salt, ketchup on the side - take a spoon, break the yolk, and dig in.

Muniya, the crumbed patty walay hash browns .. I make the simple ones but i wanna know if there are any variations that can be done in this basic recipe.
I usually serve them with sweet scrambled eggs and sweet chilli sauce .. or baked beans ..
Re: Home made hash browns
I made them in a different way, peel and grate potatoes, squeeze all excess water then mix Chapli kabab masala according to the taste. Heat oil then heap a big spoon of mixture and make patty in pan fry till golden brown and crisp, if u want little bit softer version add one egg before mixing, its a great hit in brunch parties.
Re: Home made hash browns
Oh, I love has browns. Let me tell you how I make them...
1. Boil peeled potatoes for 3-5 minutes.
2. Grate, sprinkle salt and pepper.
3. Shape them into patties(the starch in potato helps maintain its shape).
3. Fry.
Re: Home made hash browns
I grate/shred them, mix with salt pepper and egg and then make a patty

I follow the exact same recipe expect also add a little bit of all purpose flour just so the hash holds up the shape.
