having good classic and contemporary books in one’s home is a blessing.
people who value reading and encourage people they know, to read, automatically create an atmosphere of good reading skills and enthusiasm in the new readership.
having book clubs is a great way to instill a sense of meaningful and delibrate desire to read.
so, that said, how does everyone feel about owning a book library in their homes.

i belive most of us own a few books. i am a big believer of print media.
prized collection in my lib is a hand written Heer Ranjha by Warish Shah around 1850s.
not to mention all issues of Architectural Digest since December 2000.
Other than the dry subjects, I have a massive collection of Imran series and all published novels of Devta (by MuhaeeDin Nawab).
topics of interest: World History, Poetry, Law, Business, Natural History, Urdu Literature (all sorts), and selected biographies.
yeah. science fiction is there as well. Asimov and such.

Hahahaa my library is mostly devoted to warriors and the histroy of warfare. But i have plenty of classic as well as contemprory novels and books on art and music too.
But on one whole shelf you will aslo find comics!
I grew up with comics and now i even make my own, albeit on a very small scale, my favourite style is japanese chanbara manga.
That is Japanese comics devoted to Samurai warriors like lone wolf and cub and blade of yoshimoto, as well as Afro Samurai and straw hat samurai.

I had around two thousand books before I moved to US and now hardly a few books in paper from but I still have many books in digital format. Books club is a good idea though it reminds me a saying;
" one who lends a book is a stupid, and one who returns is even more"

In Pakistan.. the home library is filled with nearly every subject and created by dadda jaan ..now maintained by dad..and its ever expanding...

I don't have a seperate room in my house to dedicate just to books so my home office serves as library. I have comfy rocking chair and a papasan to read. It's great.
My library consists of Great authors - european history and tons of American literature.
cookbooks, trashy romance novels from my teens. It also has playbills, movie stubs, old letters.
I wish I would have brought my books from Pakistan. My parents had such a great Urdu collection. When my grandfather sold his house, the books went with them :(

I would love to have a library at home.. but i have only bought a few books. Nowadays almost all books are available at library.. so don't really need to buy books. But when i truly just fall in love with a book, meaning that i'd like to read it several times again i do buy it. So hopefully when i'm around 50 years old i will have my own lbrary :p

The English collection -
we have Sherlock Holmes, a lot of Agatha Christie <3, a number of Douglas Adams, Tolkien, some Rowling, and random YA books. Plus some classics from when I was majoring in English (The Odyssey, Dora, The White Hotel, Mrs. Dalloway, anthology of brit lit, etc.)

i usually collect designing, crafting, photography related books. and few aerodynamics one (not many, usually for designing purposes).
and in urdu i have collection of few Umera Ahmed's book (i can only understand her since she is contemporary and her topics are usually "Dikhr" related)

We used to have a huge home library in Pakistan. Both my parents were fond of books but my father was sort of an addict. We had all sort of children's book, youth books, novels, travelogs, etc both in urdu and english. When moving to states one of the biggest dilemma was what do with all those book, we certainly didn't want to sell them for recycling so eventually we decided to donate them to a local school in our neighborhood.

oh I would love to have one of those libraries that Belle from Beauty and the Beast had! Do collect books but they are all over the place. In parents home there are several wooden book cases with many different types. Have 100's of issues of Vogue, All Austen, Lots of Bronte (even bought from the actual Bronte home), all sorts of classics, coffe table books on Monet, Other Impressionists, Vermeer etc etc. and of course all of the university books (which can make any home turn into a library). Have about 100 Sweet Valley books from my childhood as well.

We turned our dining room into a library with built-ins. We also have overflowing bookcases in all of the bedrooms and the family room. It's time to purge...
I have a sort of library between the dining room space and the living room space, they are actually one room and the bookcase stands between the two spaces. It's big enough to contain books on both sides. There are some books of my children, some books from my childhood and the rest of whatever I bought over the years, all kinds of novels of different eras, study books, non fiction info, etc. all in Dutch, English, some French and some Urdu.
It's my favorite place in my entire home.
