Here in US the mortgage company makes it mandatory for the buyer to hire a home inspector. But be on safe side do the inspection yourself , specially invite some of your friends who bought home and later found some issues. Some people have done Ph. D when it comes to "keeray nikalna " in anything so use those friends at this occasion. I have a friend who is good at it , so whenever I buy any big ticket item I take him along with him.
