When you buy a house does anyone hire house inspectors? Or do you do it yourself? And what are tips if you do inspection yourself?

Re: Home inspectors
It's a good idea to hire a home inspector. They can tell you about things/hidden damages which need to be replaced/repaired that you otherwise may not be able to see for yourself.
Re: Home inspectors
Hire a 'licenced home inspector' in case you need to have legal bearings/formalities/insurances prior/after your purchase.
You never know when and under what circumstances you might need their certification.
No pun intended, but desis do like to cut corners in order to save whereever they can, and usually that happens where it matters the most.
IMO if you cannot afford or the feel the importance of 'home inspection' then abviousley you cannot afford the house.
I think you DO feel the importance of it, thats why you'r willing to do it your self if told how to do self inspection.

Thanks Sajal and Raindance for information, So it is necessary to hire an inspector because when I asked people here they said do it yourself.
Re: Home inspectors
Here in US the mortgage company makes it mandatory for the buyer to hire a home inspector. But be on safe side do the inspection yourself , specially invite some of your friends who bought home and later found some issues. Some people have done Ph. D when it comes to "keeray nikalna " in anything so use those friends at this occasion. I have a friend who is good at it , so whenever I buy any big ticket item I take him along with him.

I don't get it !
Which of your above statement is correct ** RED** or GREEN ^ ?
Instead of helping ume-zafeerah you r confusing this important and legal issue. One has to be very careful and like I said, leave "desi ways" of conducting important business at home or else be huanted with the consequences.
Both are correct , those inspectors look for big issues , like structural damage, mold, termite, etc etc, but many cosmetic details they miss , I can give you some examples . That inspector gave all good report on my newly constructed house , but some bricks which were supposed to beautify the underside of all the outside doors were missing. Some knobs on the kitchen cabinets were missing. The porch light was misaligned etc etc. So all those cosmetic issues have to be pointed out by the buyer.
Re: Home inspectors
^ I would have engaged the home inspector after checking his/her references, licences and experience on last few assignments, cross check them as they are not all the same calibre, and you have a good deal on your hand before you part off with your money.
After all its a "Big tag item" like you said. Right ?

Right , but as I said they do not look for small cosmetic details. But I do not know how they operate in UK , they might look for those details too in UK.
Re: Home inspectors
Mirch is right
homeinspectors look for major stuff like structure, foundation, wiring, hvac, rado, mold etc.
the small things are missed and can be annoying, things like noisy exhaust fans that start rattling after a couple of minutes, doors or windows that stick, loose outlets, much of the cosmetc stuff, which can add up, and especially if you are not the first owner it can add up, if you are the first owner the builder usually has some time included for you to discover these issues and have the builder fix them.
Re: Home inspectors
In the UK we have to have the house checked by a surveyor for structural damage etc.
I would advise you to definitely get some one to check it for you, and also check it yourself, take some experienced friends, and a LIST of things to check for.
Ask to see receipts of any work done, for example if they claim to have had the re-wiring done, or central heating etc, check the receipts and dates.
On your visits, have them turn on the ceating / air con to ensure it works. Take a ladder and go into the roof space to check for insulation etc.
Check the electricity sockets etc.
Re: Home inspectors
Hiring a professional home inspector is extremely important for your safety. Just like only a doctor can know the difference between a cold or something bigger, a home imspector can tell you if there are actual problems or not. :)
Re: Home inspectors
i would highly recommend getting ur house inspected by some professional and ur broker would easily find u one, its HIS responsibility not urs, and they charge u almost 300 dollars for a house and 150 for a condo/town house and i believe its worth it.
and as Mirch said after getting the house inspected by him u can inspect the cosmetic stuff urself.
btw congratulations for buying a house
Thanks for the information all of you and we have just started looking for inspector if someone can give me a good deal. :)
