I am one of those people who are not so creative with decor stuff. I need some helpful ideas, pictures, websites, books etc that can be helpful when deciding on how to work various areas, rooms etc with furniture, decorative items etc. I am looking for basic ideas, looks that would complement nicely a smaller place.
Oops…I listed places where you could find great furni but no decor ideas…
Grab home furnishing magazines; they have lot of good ideas. Also, grab a book on Feng-shui. [Note to members of the peanut gallery: don’t diss Feng-Shui, karma is a female dog!]
My entire place is decorated in a modern contemporary style, and the only traditional room is one that is set up as a moroccan sultani room.
There are tons of other sites and stores that can give you better ideas and better products, wether you are into mid centiry modern like eames, noguchi, le corbusier type of stuff, or danish modern, or modern asian.
I dont hate it because it is modern, I hate it because it is in general third rate. yeah u can get some good things from there rugs, shelves, entertainment centers, altough they tend to be prety horrible in terms of quality.
Ikea is only good for cheap decorating items , nothing else…n yeah you can maybe get some stylish looking furniture frm Ikea sometime but quailty is really really bad .
my dear ira, i always feel that a house is really a projection of ones own self. if youcan afford name brand furniture well and good. but it all boils down to the fact that how you manage to lay out everything.
it is always safe and sure if you play things simple.
like the major things if kept neutral or earthy you will probably never go wrong.
walls........ preferably ainted to a soft beige colour tones, or sage green
flooring........ if its laminated or hardwood......... you just need an are rug
if its wall to wall .......... have it along the same color of walls or a tinge darker.
curtains ..........could beprint with a deeper tones of same color. the valance could be plain deep color.
the sofa.........could be an even darker shade along the same lines.
you could add more color through the throw cushions, decorations, area rug, flowers a painting.
if you pick one main colour and work your things around it, you should never go wrong insha allah,

fraudia....would u be so kind as to post a pic of that moroccan room. I really want to do that same thing in our home but i have no idea where to buy the stuff from....locally.
& your & your significant other’s personal/ collective sense of taste and ease of use of whatever items you want to purchase to make your space look personalized and impressive for social with family and friends.
angel eyes, i will post a pic as soon as the room is sorted, right now we are in the middle of a collection drive and have that room filled with donation stuff.
we did not really get stuff from one place, some things begum made herself, others we found here and there. we call it the sultani room because it is a traditional room with a floor seating area with assorted floor and throw pillows, the bedding (the bed btw is a very non moroccan 4 poster but it works) color is deep burgundy, med pinks type. def a room begum put together.
will post a pic when it is sorted, the stuff has to go over the next few weeks so after that.
ira,
still check out ikea catalogs for your own judgment. You will find lots of ideas for decorating a place, big or small. Their decoration stuff is always colorful(the way I like). You don't have to purchase everything from there(you have to be very stupid to purchase all items from one single store!), ofcourse, there are other places to get furniture from such as home depot, bedbath&beyond, etc. Just look around I'm sure you'll find something that suits your taste but I'm sure you'll like ikea decoration ideas. They also have their catalogs online so do check them. :)
