i discovered a great tailor on gerrard (finally, WOO HOO!)
her name is sara and she's at 1308 gerrard street east, at gerrard and greenwood. she's got a sign outside her shop called "Expert Tailors and Alterations". she's quick and does a good job with clothes.
beware though, she lost her only son to cancer two years ago and she tells you about the whole, very sad, *very *painful story (i think its cathartic for her and helps her cope) -- be prepared to cry the first time you go to her! i felt so sad for her when i left :(
shes got pics of her son in some uniform i think??
i dealt wit her earlier this year.
i felt horrible for her but that lady cannot sew. i had asked her to make my dholki suit. (simple silk suit, all i had wanted was to get it sewn and had a fancy crystal lace for it). gave her both my naap ka suit -and she took measurements as well.
her stitching was a joke. one sleeve was loose, one was tight. one was long, the other short. neck was not straight! absolutely no neatness, whatsoever. no interlocking.
she was charging me $60 for this hideous COSTUME because the lace had to be hand-sewn.
i was pissed.
the expensive kapra andlace, the suit, everything was such a waste!

i was planning to give her a suit to see how she does the fitting and all that- i'll keep y'all posted on how it turns out.

It's across from sabzi mandi in the kabab king lane. That guy fixed a couple of my suits and he did a decent job. He talks alot though and is kind of annoying so if you give him some attitude, he will stay shut.

Shay how much did he charge? Did he stitch your suits or just alter theM? I asked around at some of the places there, getting a saree stitched will set me back $75 each (30 for the blouse and 45 for the pleats). But i also dont want to send ti to pakistan cz wherever my famiyl finds their darzi, they do a terrible job, so im willing to pay a lil bit =/

I hear there's a good tailor on cortelyou and coney island ave in brooklyn... the store is called parvez tailors or something... a lady I see here and there is gori married to a paki and she always has such nice new instyle kinda kapray and she told me he does it for her... $40 for a simple suit and $60 for fancy.. something like that.... maybe you wanna check that out? Ill see if I can get his number sometime..

oh and here i always thot that gori girls have fugly taste wen it comes to desi stuff just cz they dont know any better and their desi in laws dont either (or dont care and assume she doesnt know so dont even try). :@:

the tailoring from scratch for me, in one word, was a JOKE.

I m also a home-based designer & i have my own workers & tailor.. My ranges starts from 6000 Rs & goes on depending on the work.. I buy fabric frm Hilal Silk Palace which is 1 of the best shops in karachi 4 fabrics & best quality matrial is used & even the stitching is amazing.. If anyone is interested than u can contact me.. :)

^^ these are the ones i have already made for clients , copying from the pics,etc accordng to their choice (and sizes .. in case if anyone is wondering why some shirts are VERY big )
the bridal lehnga is the sample pic..the lehnga is not ready yet..will be getting it in another month InshaAllah..will post the pics then.
