Home Based Data Entry Job or Scam?

I have been offered a home based data entry job, and it seems like they have hired me. But I am doubtful, could this possibly be a scam? I had an online interview via yahoo messenger. They have asked for my back account so they can send a check which I will use to purchase the necessary software. Can someone help please. Is this appropriate? Should I give out bank information or is this fraud?

Any company that asks you for your bank details at the outset , are fraud ...

Please remember that any employer that hires you, will get you to sign proper documents, you should always carefully check their websites and office details , contact details and read about them on the internet to see what kind of repute they have .. no company ever asks for money from staff unless they are a fraud ..

Where are you and where are they? in the same city?
It's so odd, they always want to have certain information to do certain simple tasks. Thet should give you the idea of how legit they are.
