A one-day triangular series involving Australia, India and Pakistan is likely to be held in Amstelveen, Holland, in August. According to a report in the Times of India, a spokesman for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed that the VRA Ground in Amstelveen had been chosen as the venue, but also added the rider that the ICC would first inspect the facilities there.

“The ICC inspection committee, in consultation with senior representatives of the Pakistan, Indian and Australian Boards, will clear the venue for the tournament,” the spokesman said. “The VRA Ground has already hosted a one-day international, when South Africa and Kenya played there in the 1999 World Cup.”

The boards of Australia, India and Pakistan have already agreed to play a triangular tournament in Europe before the ICC Champions Trophy, which will be held in England in September 2004.

ICC to inspect Dutch venue before Pakistan-India-Australia series](http://uk.sports.yahoo.com/040119/323/ejran.html)

KARACHI (AFP) - The International Cricket Council (ICC) is sending a delegation to the Netherlands to inspect a venue hosting a tri-series between world champions Australia and traditional rivals India and Pakistan, a Pakistani official has said.

Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) operations general manager Zakir Khan said he had been asked to join Indian cricket official Karunakaran Nair and Australia’s Richard Watson in the delegation heading to the Netherlands on January 28.

“The ICC has directed us to inspect the facilities at the venue in Amstelveen in the Netherlands before a tri-series involving Australia, Pakistan and India,” Khan told AFP on Monday.

Zakir said the series would be played in late August and early September in the Amstelveen, near the Dutch capital Amsterdam.

“It would be a great helping hand to cricket in the Netherlands which has been taking great strides in international cricket and watching giants like Australia, Pakistan and India would be unique for the Dutch (people).”

India, cleared by New Delhi in October to play Pakistan after a three-year ban on bilateral cricket, is also scheduled to tour Pakistan for their first tour in 14 years in March and April.

It has also agreed to play six one-day games – three each in Pakistan and India – later this year.

Australia, three-times winners of the World Cup, and India and Pakistan have featured in a tri-series just once – in Australia in 1999-2000.

Cricket Australia (CA), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the PCB have agreed to feature in the event in August-September this year to tune up for the biennial ICC Champions Trophy to be held in England in September.

CA, which turned down an offer to feature in a tri-series in Sharjah in either February or April this year, agreed to the Amstelveen series to compensate a cash-strapped PCB.

Pakistan suffered a cricket drought and financial losses to the tune of 25 million dollars since September 2001 attacks on the United States and the following war in neighbouring Afghanistan.

Australia refused to tour Pakistan for a tri-series in August 2002 and then for a Test series two months later and played at neutral venues.

The Netherlands has featured in two World Cups – 1996 and 2003 – and also staged a match between South Africa and Kenya played at Amstelveen in the 1999 World Cup held in England.

**Netherlands to hold triangular one-day tournament
Tue 16 March, 2004 09:58

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, March 16 (Reuters) - India, Pakistan and world champions Australia will play a one-day triangular tournament in the Netherlands in August, the chief executive of the Pakistan Cricket Board said on Tuesday.

“The tournament will be held in Amstelveen just before the ICC Champions Trophy in England in September,” Ramiz Raja told Reuters.

“It’s another move towards having regular cricket ties with India,” he added.

The Amstelveen ground hosted a 1999 World Cup match between South Africa and Kenya.

“The three boards and the venue inspection committee of the International Cricket Council (ICC) have recently inspected the ground and have suggested some improvements,” Raja said.

India are in Pakistan for their first full series in more than 14 years.

The Indian government had banned all home and away cricket between the neighbours due to political tension but relations have improved since last year.

Just wanted to confirm the news :hula:
I should get tickets for this match, I’m starting to enjoy cricket again…sure brings out the Pakistani in me :jhanda:

So what's the ground capacity for stadiums in Holland? 500?

I've always wanted to visit Holland. This is a good motivation. SO hows the weather like in August?

^ This one has 11.000 seats :snooty:

FG, August is lovely! Hot hot hot

Well, how hot is “hot hot hot”? There are different definitions of “hot” for Canadians, Amreekans, South Amreekans, Pakistanis etc.

Dang, I hope the tournament doesn’t clash with my Olympic Games schedule. Sporting tournaments are like busses, you wait for one all year long, and then they all come together

Captain, dont be a kabab may huddi. I know how hot she is.

Captain let's say it's hot enough to enjoy the match without sweating like a pig.
So for pakistani standards it's 'cool' in August

I´m going to Holland again. :)

^Wifey ko bhie le karr aaiye ga!

:p

Hey I think, its a good time to visit Amsterdam, will have to tell hubbby :)

Im coming into cricket fever.

wow, that will be a great tournament
11,000 - seems like a decent capacity for a pitch in in a country that does'nt play cricket
