I learned to simplify after I went to India and took about 10 lbs of make-up which obviously cut into my baggage allowance. The problem was I was supposed to attend a multi-day wedding and needed all of my pots and potions.
The last trip to the UK, I did minimize. I took:
Two small eyeshadow palettes (a neutral one and one that had quite a few colours),
Mascara
Liquid liner
Pencil liner (two colours)
Two lipsticks (one day and one evening)
Two lipliners and two glosses (one neutral and one deep colour)
Blush
Foundation, concealer and tinted moisturizer
Brushes
Eyelash curler

toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash
facial wash, facial scrub, moisturiser.
SPF, body moisturiser, body spray, deodarant, perfume.
Shampoo, conditioner, serum, comb, brush, straightners.
elizabeth arden 8 hour cream, an eyeshadow pallet (sleek - as it is highly pigmented and has various different colours) eyeliner, mascara, blush, foundation, lip gloss. a girl has to look good no matter where you are :D
Lots of under garments.
face towels and bath sheets
Pj's
Books, magazines
Ipod
laptop
and lots of clothes and shoes
oh and spending money :)

I’m going to be packing my makeup bag and I shall update on the contents once i’m done packing 
I dont want to take too much as i’ll be buying stuff from Canada itself. Nars is definitely on my list.

When I went Dubai this summer I took:
Primer
Mineral foundation for the evenings (because I knew my liquid foundation would just melt off)
Concealer
UDPP
1 Neutral eyeshadow
Black gel liner
Mascara
A couple of lipsticks and lipglosses
1 blush
Eyelash curler
Makeup brushes
So not much...it all fit into a little makeup bag.
