It is a lil early to ask but I was wondering what is the general etiquette for holiday gifts for teachers at your kids’ school.
I need to get some for my daughter’s preschool teachers (that is total 4 teachers) and was hoping other parents and any teachers on board could share some suggestions and/or preferences.
In one of the teacher’s room I have seen tons of family pictures,so I was thinking maybe a frame..?
I personally love getting and giving candles,so maybe those.I am no good at it,so home made goodies are not an option.Also,if I am to give gift cards,what is a decent amount?

Since I have 3 kids, and all these things add up, I have a $15 dollar for each teacher gift. I’ll usually do gift cards to SuperTarget or do a cute Starbucks package…but frames and candles are also ask if the school office or PTA (if there is one) have “teacher wish lists” of their likes/favorite stores/etc

Although I am not too keen on GCs but I am inclining towards those.I was just thinking if I was a teacher and got so many knick knacks and stuff every year,I would just run out of space to keep those and appreciate them.A gift card for Target etc can always be used,I think.And since she loves crafts she can make some cards to go with them…

Exactly! I have sheets for all my kid’s teachers for their likes/favorites, so I’ll do giftcards from their favorite restaraunts or a gift card for a mani/pedi…those are always much appreciated!

As a kid I used to do cards, Christmas tree ornaments, and water globes. I don’t even know if teachers are okay with that anymore.
When I have kids, I’d do Baths and Body works gift card, probably an engraved water globe from Things Remembered, or even a small nail color/lip color kit from Michael Kors. They usually have small three-nail-color / three-lip-color kits during Holiday season. It’s pretty neat.

Kid’s teacher is going away on mat-leave in couple of weeks, what could I give her? or giving a gift card is a safe choice?

and I just noticed that reference to sarcasm…no chips…there was no sarcasm there…I stated clearly that I was not intending to “stir the pot”. I merely found a similarity in the concepts and was curious to know how others felt.

Though Bath & Body works have pretty nice stuff during the holidays,I think it is a very personal choice what someone might like from there.I just like a few fragrances from there.So I feel more chances of going wrong,no..?

For pregnant teacher: a book for baby and tea for teacher
General gifts: gift card($ 10 or more) tea, candles, chocolates, picture frame, mug, personalize tote bag. Bath and body will be definitely appreciated.
Include a hand written note, that is what makes the teachers really happy and feel appreciated, even if you don’t gift them anything.

Lol…i was just going to post “no candles” before opening this thread. I’ve nothing against candles…but we teachers do tend to get a lot them.

I would just do a box of chocolates or something.
Some schools also organize class gifts and room parents will collect once at the beginning of the year.

Oh no! I didn’t mean to suggest buying the actual sprays/lotions/shower gels. Of course everybody has their own taste.
I meant get a gift card for Baths and Body Works. In the past, two of my female professors have really appreciated that.
My my. All these gifts ..some very fancy…add up and teachers go home loaded eh.
If it’s just a thank u kinda thing… I would think a hand.made card would beat it all. I mean ..isn’t it meant to be from the kid??? What’s more meaningful than a handmade card?? Or anything actually…that a kid can make emselves.? Even a batch of cookies etc.
Is this a American Canadian thing? We aren’t allowed to give anything other than hand made stuff (if at all).. to midgets minders.

It is a myth that teachers go home loaded. From a class of 25-30, a teacher might get something from 3-5 families…
Teachers don’t expect any gifts from families.
They appreciate if they are gifted something from a family.
Most of the teacher I know do gift children a holiday and end of year gift.
The holiday gift for both teachers and children are not associated with any Christian and/or Jewish traditions, unless the school has a religious affiliation and classify holidays with a religious name.
On Eid, I gifted my son’s teachers shawls as Eid gift. Three of them were Muslims and 1 Jew.

From what I’ve seen teachers don’t go home loaded.
I make a point to give a gift on Christmas and at the end of the year. Not anything substantial…one year we just bought a large bouquet of flowers at the end of the year…but something so that we can attach a note that mentions how much we appreciate the care and attention that they provide to our child.
On Eid we send in something for the whole class to share.
That’s indeed very nice… I thought all kids would be.giving something cuz their peer was.
