so…not to stir the pot but…I have to ask…
Is it okay to give “holiday” which c’mon we all know are either Christmas or Hanukkah presents, or should we avoid doing this in case it puts our deen in jeopardy?

Re: Holiday gifts for your kids’ teachers
If that’s the case then people might as well keep their kids from attending the Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah classroom parties at school. If exchanging gifts is a big deal, then why be a part of the celebration overall?
Giving holiday presents in my opinion, is a way of showing tolerance and acceptance of their religion [it doesn’t mean you’re converting]. It just means being part of someone’s happiness on a humanitarian level. Plus, it helps blend your child in so that he/she doesn’t feel isolated when the rest of the class brings in gifts for the teacher.
Re: Holiday gifts for your kids’ teachers
Or you pick out a completely different day after the holidays and give out presents to your buddies :k:
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
My parents used to give gifts to our teachers at the end of the year as a way of saying thanks for their support to us. Not as Christmas presents or Hannukah presents.
Now I want to stir the pot, zor zor se.
Will you go if invited and take a gift to the following occasions …
…your Muslim friend is inviting to her wedding but she is marrying a non Muslim.
… your friend who is a homosexual is getting married.
…baby shower of an unmarried friend.
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
Muzna, would you wish them ‘Merry Christmas’ or ‘Happy Holidays’?
I don’t think giving gifts is so different from wishing them well..
Agree with this..
Damn it, I gave my kids bus driver a present for Xmas last year. My foreskin has since grown out, and I forgot all my ayats from Quran and fall asleep while praying. Oh no, I am not a Muslim anymore!!!

Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
yes, yes and yes.
Yes…I wish them Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
oh dear…now what?
Now I guess I will have to become a Rastafarian or Zoroastrian.
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
Does that mean we can lie on the beach and have rum and coke all day long?
Yes we can
Reeelaaax Mon… Have a jAAm sAndweeech
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
If you’re giving gifts at the end of the year to appreciate your child’s teacher…well…that’s not until June.
If you’re giving gifts at the end of December/early January…then you’re commemorating an un-Islamic holiday. Similar to Halloween and trick or treating/dressing up.
You choose to pull the plug on Halloween but give gifts at Christmas/NY? How is one non-Muslim holiday better than the other?
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
^ maybe because some people consider Halloween “pagan” but Christmas and New Years are holidays from “ehl-e-kitaab”
The winter solstice for assorted sun gods, Druids and Vikings decorating trees and all that really means that majority of Christmas has little to do with Jesus, the origins are as pagan as pagan can be.
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
^ this…exactly!
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
This is getting lame…
Re: Holiday Gifts for Your Child’s Teachers
Its not lame…its reality ^
I hear the same old stuff every year about begging for candy and dressing up kids in devilish costumes and such. And then I see friends of mine talking about gifting teachers during holiday season. What kind of messages are being sent here to your kids? Is anyone bothering to send mithai on Eid? Probably not. If Muslims don’t bother emphasizing their own holidays yet cherry pick holidays to mark in other faiths - what does that mean? It just means there’s no real thought being put into these actions…we’re just kinda going along with things during Xmas but Halloween is the real threat.
For those people who don’t consider carving pumpkins an attack on Islam, it gets old and annoying.
