Holiday Gift for Guy boss

Re: Holiday Gift for Guy boss

***Time for another Donkey......this time name it in his "honour"

In my case, I always try to give something impersonal / neutral - e.g. if I know the guy likes coffee, get him a Tims/Starbucks mug and a $25 gift card for coffee ; for someone who's into sports, a desktop decor item pertaining to the game etc.

Boring may be - but it's something that works with many people.

I've also gifted items like cross pen sets, fancy memory sticks with cases, ergonomic pen sets etc.

I'd avoid items that may seem funny on the outset... because the receiver might misconstrue them to be an overt insinuation of some sort. Also, engraved/personalized items should only be given if you feel extremely comfortable with someone... otherwise they might come off as brown nosing.

I was thinking we downgrade him to some chickens this time.

You should just do 'Secret Santa' instead. You only have to buy one gift. We exchanged ours today, I got this really naff candle holder, but I also got some chocolate penguins with a free penguin maracas toy! Its amazing! We always set a budget too, so people don't overspend.

Very decent!

Secret Santa works in places where you have a decent size team/department and people who know each other fairly well, and where you can have an organized event for gifts exchange. Other places, where work is individualized or done in smaller teams, it might not work so well.

Gift for Gay Boss...

Oh!!! Hmm... well...!!!!!!!

Unless you have a personal friendship with your current boss - which based on your earlier remarks, I assume you had with your former boss - I'd ix-nay the idea of a Christmas present for the new boss.

There are a couple of reasons: not everyone celebrates Christmas, not everyone is comfortable receiving gifts from their employee/employer - it makes you feel beholden to them and it creates a precedent where you have to continue with gifting once you've started.

A professional relationship should be just that - a boss shouldn't expect a gift from an employee. And the only gift an employee should expect is a generous bonus or a promotion :D
