Inspired by the Hindu Holi festival, participants take part in a five kilometre ‘Colour Run’ dotted with locations where coloured powders are thrown over the runners.

Idk.if color run is holi inspired. Its been going on in the US for the last few years. Not just "color run", but there are so.many with the same theme with different name. They just want to put some fun.in the run/walk. Surely it isn't holy inspired.

The color part is an inspiration.

Cool! The popularity of Holi seems to be increasing outside of India. There’s also an annual Holi Festival of Colors in Utah, which is billed as the largest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere.

And I cant believe the folks here trying to deny holi as an inspiration for this. Don't you watch bollywood movies? Some of those movies were released long before 2011.

why? i’m a Muslim but i LIKE the color part of holi…i don’t like the dirty part of holi AND the huge fire that they burn at major intersections but i LOVE the people playing with colors.
you tagged “asthma attack” as one of the reasons for you not liking the festival. well, most people also play Holi withe colorful water. and like those Muslims who do not like Holi, asthmatic people should stay home up to 2 pm. the Holi activities in UP STOP at 2 pm.
colorful life is always better than dull N colorless life.

I thought there might be some regional customs behind it. May be playing with colors has been part of many cultures.
