The question is very simple; Should a public official be allowed to maintain another profession while in the office?
Let me break that down by citing an example:
Mayor X runs the city for decades, and while a mayor does not hold another office because it would be a conflict of interest. After Mayor X decides to quit running for future office, is now open to private venture as a consultant to one of the many businesses that do business in the city for which he was a mayor.
Alright then,
Should a public official any part of the Governmental, Judicial, or executive bodies be able to hold another job? How about one that will have a conflict of interest?
While watching the news, and the hearing of PM’s Contempt case, the anchor kept saying Senator Aitzas Ehsan, attorney for the Prime Minister. What in the world?! You are a part of senate, and while holding that office, you’re also defending your premiere in the highest court of the country as a lawyer? Seems very contradictory to me. How can a senator be expected to be impartial in senate if he has no qualms about defending the PM? How can Aitzaz the lawyer accept senatorship while his heart is set to being a top-notch lawyer?
I may be wrong, but I have never heard of a current senator take cases for one of the Govt. officials, and defend him as a client. Didn’t the same people who were busy ousting Musharraf use the same argument against him that he cannot be COAS and President at the same time? Though on a lesser degree, how is being senator by day, lawyer by night and weekends different from what Musharraf did? Or is this acceptable in a “democratic” set up?

PS: Again, I would request of my fellow countrymen to avoid derailing my topic with gibrish and nonsense that does not pertain to the topic. Gracias!
Re: Holding two titles, two offices, getting two salaries at once? Acceptable?
All senators and MNAs who are Lawyers continue their practice as a Lawyer .
Think read and know before starting a thread .
What a thread which should be
"to avoid derailing my topic with gibrish and nonsense that does not pertain to the topic"

So do you think that is acceptable, or allowable? How do you feel about a serving MNA/MPA defending an elected official in a court of law in his capacity as a lawyer? Doesn't it pose a conflict of interest?
Re: Holding two titles, two offices, getting two salaries at once? Acceptable?
Is there a law that says you cannot hold more than office any given time? If no, its perfectly legal.
Being member of Senate or any assembly is not supposed at be holding an office .
Even there is no such law for ministers but they are asked by the court to not to appear as council .
Re: Holding two titles, two offices, getting two salaries at once? Acceptable?
Its a legal issue and I don’t know exactly after all Eitzaz is a good lawyer and may be its legal.
