Do you have any hobbies? By hobby I mean something that interests you that you pursue in your free time…not for the intention of making money but just for fun?
I’ve noticed that alot of the people I know (guess who I know? :D) consider something that won’t benefit you financially, physically (exercising) or religiously (teaching religion classes at the masjid etc) is considered a waste of time and a bad thing.
So twofold question… whats your hobby, and whats your opinion on my second para?

Hobbies: reading, art work (oil pastels, mosaics, etc), watching movies, traveling, shopping, cooking, etc.
I wouldn't consider a hobby a waste of time unless it's consuming a majority of your time and causes an unreasonable shift in your priorities. Many hobbies involve some degree of physical activity (which is better than being sedentary). As far as the religious perspective is concerned, one might even think that by indulging in a hobby, you're making use of the gifts and talents that Allah has given you.
One of the biggest benefits of a hobby is that it brings some peace. During the leisure activity, you have time to relax and put your thoughts in order. It lets you unwind...take a breather....so that you're more refreshed when you get back into the responsibilities of life....such as relationships. So, no, it's not a waste of time.

An activity or interest pursued outside one's regular occupation and engaged in primarily for pleasure.

i spend my free time with TV/films , reading books/magazines, art(sketching, painting)..
and i agree with RV for the 2nd part :D as long as it doesnt make you too distracted from important things such as school, family-friends time, prayers etc.
