I’m not sure whether to put this here or in Media but does anyone else get the urge to clean everything they own after watching those Hoarding shows on TV? I’m stuck at home today waiting for an electrician to show up and Hoarding: Buried Alive is currently playing. It’s halfway over and the lady isn’t admitting she has a problem. The family of this woman is just devastated (and yes I know this is a mental illness she’s going through; I’m not demonizing here but I’m fighting the urge to purge half my belongings.)

I get urges to do that without watching these shows. I'm a semi-minimalist at heart.

That’s my default as well but I am convinced that my mother has made it her life mission to thwart me! Every time she comes to visit she brings more luggage that she could possible need filled with things that she “just knew” I would *need *to have.

I got a category 5 beautiful hoarder at my home, when she went on holidays me and Safy threw out a truck load and no one even noticed. We still have some brand new baby toys, clothing and books. First when the home was filled to rafters she said baby your house is too small, then we moved to bigger and bigger homes and now she says baby you put too many windows in the house we need wall space for storage. Things are getting better slowly though.

There's just something about women... there's never enough storage for us, eh? I really try and rein the women of my family in... My sister hoards shoes, clothes, and scarves of every type. My mother hoards kitchen and household items. And in the interest of full disclosure, I do have a large collection of books but they fit on my shelves, I swear!

Checked out the categories here The 5 Hoarding Levels and Guidelines for Recognizing the Disorder. I think my mum would be category 1 hoarder. I am a semi-minimalist. We don’t get along unless we compromise :hehe: Most of the things she keeps are stuff granny(May her soul rest in peace) gave her.

True… Never enough storage
I love books, but I don’t get them. There isn’t a single thing I hoard. I had a very small carton of stuff from high school which i got rid of a few years back.

Good for you, dealing with hoarding has been our biggest challenge. We built this beautiful house backing on the river and forest and we never got a chance to enjoy it as it never looks nice with all the clutter in the house. We are finally getting rid of stuff.

Yeah!! the other day she threw a whole bunch of them out, she is a bit bossy. I confiscated a lot of stuff from this white collar criminal tenant of mine and he had some really fancy stuff including knives so half I got by default. I had many bicycles also but gave most away.

I like to sew, so I hoard fabrics and trims. I have tons of fabric from many years ago but I keep buying more.

I make some pillows and stuff for my home but mostly I make salwaar kameez suits.
