Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

wont consider Kaneria a flop, wasnt given a consistent chance, Yes hafeez was a flop but he did fill some gap as an "all-rounder" but his run is over I guess

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

how is mohammad hafeez is a flop????

he played only TWO innings....

in the first match, he was expensive but then again he was bowling to well set batsmen both of who got their hundreds....
and then he came in when 4 wickets were down at 60 something....
he had to hold the crease and he did and scored 42....

in the second match he picked up two wickets....
he was expensive, but so was everyone else....

he made only 7 (from 7 balls) and was caught trying to get a big one....
he had to take the risk, the asking rate was high....

how the hell do u consider him a flop????

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

^^ I think he dropped crucial catches as well.. he is an opener with an Ave of 17 after 30 matches.. enough of chances given.

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

For me the biggest hit was the collective TEAM performance by our boys. This is oppposed to the usual individual performances see. For once the guys really wanted to win as a team and pulled together in the last 2 Test matches and then in the one-dayers after being 2-0 down. Who could have predicted they’d come back and win four in a row? They didn’t go out there just to play better than the next guy and show off but wanted to win for the country.

I love you boys:)

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

one guy who no one is talking about is kamran akmal. Barring that first test, he has been ordinary at best. His performance in ODI should cause some discomfort among the pak selectors.

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

Hits of the tour: Pakistan

Flops of the Tour: India

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

yaar yeh Ganguly tau donoN maiN hai.. aik kaam karo…** Ganguly ko Common nikaal kar bracket say baahir rakh dau**

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

Yes I agree, Kamran Akmal was an average in keeping and lil below average in batting.

Razzaq played better in 1 down while couldn’t do anything in late order hitting where he has earned more fame lately.

Salman, Afridi, Malik, Inzamam, Youhanna, Younis, Rana :k: :k: (v good performance)
Arshad, Rao, Razzaq, Akmal, Sami (half-heartedly) :k: (average performance)
Hafeez, Kaneria, Taufeeq :nook: (not good)

Shahid Nazir didn’t get any chance.

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

It would not be fair on my 'humble' part to adjudge a player or players based on their 2+ or non+ games. And It would not be fair to Name them here, as we know that few players were/are already under fire through 'Media trial-tabo' such as Mohd Hafees, Yasir Hameed, Taufiq Umer etc.

On the other hand the 'Present young team' has out performed many predictions and anticipated match results proving me wrong with match results.
But Indicated through my 'Fantacy Team' I seemed to anchore good faith in this
fighters squad.
They have done well and after the 4th & 5th wins I had no doubts what so ever in the result out of the 6th ODI.

During one of my posts on 3rd ODI, some when objected to my stressing and praising a 'joint suportive' effort by the Pak team to take the 3rd ODI, hence the team never paused to look back and darted forward and high,,,,

It was a tremendous 'Joint team effort' where every one chipped in and won the hearts and souls of Millions of Pakistanis and teh Indians in some cases.

Boys have been termed as the "True ambassadores of Pakistan" :Salut:

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

The most obvious "hit" that has not been mentioned yet is the leadership of Younis Khan. The guy had plenty of detractors; many of them on Gupshup, and including me. Most people were totally pissed off at his elevation to Vice Captaincy, when his own place in the team was shaky. We all thought he is going to rob Shoaib Malik of his rightful #3 position in the team. Some were annoyed at the casual manner in which Youhanna was stripped of his Vice Captaincy, and offloaded their anger on Khan.

Archives of Gupshup are evidence of the disdain Younis elicited from the members for his batting prowess. Threads like Youseless Khan were opened and some email lists that I subscribe to, people were wondering how come a Pathan hits such weak shots that he is never able to hit a six. Veggie Pathan was often used as an insult. I don't think any of them were wrong at the time they were written. Younis definitely has improved by leaps and bounds in recent months. And may be, the role of Vice Captaincy has also contributed in his success as a batsman.

Before the Indian tour, we tended to ignore his tremendous performance in Australia in the previous tour. After Mohali, Younis was literally murdered by the pundits. Failed with the bat. Didn't hold the catches, and no leadership to show off. Why is he in the team, was the loudest cry coming from the experts.

The guy never spoke a word in the press. He focussed on his game and had support from his team, and then he bounced back. His performances in tests #2 and #3 made him not only the highest scorer from Pakistan in the whole test series, but also the second highest scorer amongst both teams, second only to Sehwag. He topped in the score averages (101), from both teams.

But the biggest contribution was not in batting or fielding, but the role of 'heir apparent'. While in this series, Inzi, for the first time, took off his cape of Mr Indifferent and became a new animated Skipper, it was Younis who infused a new found self-belief in the team. Whenever Inzi was off the field, you can visibly see the stand-in captain taking charge. Talking to bowlers, making constant field adjustments and generally doing a pretty good job of playing according to a plan and leading by example to keep the opponents under pressure. His throw to run out Sehwag in 4th ODI was symbolic of the resurgence of Pakistan team. Aggression was the word and the whole team displayed it constantly in the last four games to completely overwhelm the Indian team. So much was the confidence of Pakistan team management had in Younis that Inzi never even bothered to come out in the field for the sixth ODI. Granted he was suffering from a back ache and advised rest, but you can bet that had Inzi felt a lack of confidence in his deputy, he may just have walked in. But Younis was impeccable, to the point of almost-faultless. Yeah, he could have brought in Rana earlier for the second spell, or tried Afridi/Malik a few over earlier, but the victory margin of 159 runs speaks volumes.

Inzamam still has a few years of cricket left. And currently he is head-and-shoulders above any batsman Pakistan has. It is hard to imagine our batting line up without Inzamam, and surely once Inzamam leaves, there may again be a brittleness back in the line up. But, from a leadership stand-point, I believe we have found our man. Younis may not win all the games. And surely the West Indian tour will be a great test for the team as well as Younis, but the flashes of brilliance he has shown, and the team spirit he has displayed, I think Imran Khan was absolutely correct when he identified Younis and said, we need a leader with aggression. Spot on, Mr Khan!

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

I must admit, I mocked yoosless oops younis (old habits die hard) khan's power. He IS a veggie pathan. I will never understand how a pathan can be so weak.

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

^^ couldnt agree more.. :salute:

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

^ rite on the monney Faisal. :k:

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

Younis is not 'weak'. It's just that his style of batting is such that he does not hit many sixes. He has by far the greatest stamina in the Pak cricket team. He can run around all day, and never get tired. I remember, 2-3 years back he played in a match during Ramadhan, while fasting, and he made a 50 and took something like 5 catches. Speaks volumes about his stamina and dedication. So he's not a weakling, just different. Even in the 6th ODI when it seemed he was slowing things down, he actually made 42 at almost a run a ball.

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

The series between Pakistan & India was played in great manner, but several things really disturb the players and also the viewers. First the venues were very far from each other and every player was very tired because of this. Second throwing of objects (stone on bus, bottles in ground) on Pakistan players were seen. And in last the umpiring in last ODI, was really disappointing.
I think Inzamam-ul-haq name is on the top of list where the batsman has been given out doubtfully.

Yasir Hameed must be brought back
Yasir Hameed in his last 2 Test matches he has scored 3 fifties and in Patron’s One Day Cup, he also scored 2 centuries as well 2 fifties in 6 matches. Now Shahid Afridi has done quite well in opening, so I think he is fit for the position. But in seam and swing conditions (In Australia, New Zealand & England) Afridi must play in lower order.

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

no 1 flopped for pakistan in the ODI's. every player done thier bit. kamran akmal made that beutiful 41 in quick time and apart from that he wasnt called upon or had 2 scrore quick.

razzaq batted amazing at 3 at time.

kineria didnt get enuff of a chance and hafeez bowled well but he batted not in place.

rao is good aswell

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

He plays ground shots (safest ones) and does not play uppish most of the times, when he does play uppish he gets out quickly… so next time you see him play uppish shots you know whats coming  . There are lots of other Pakistan batsmen who played while fasting, no big deal, Salman Butt played against India (not this series) while fasting I believe and scored very well too. In 6th ODI, he did slow down the inning in beginning if you were watching the game he was 3 (17) at one point but charged up later in the inning to bring up his RR. The only good thing I like about him is his temprament in Tests and his flashes of brilliance in given leadership roles!

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

Arun LOL (ak Arun LAL) is the greatest hit of the series. That guy almost cry when India is falling behind :)

Re: Hits and Flops of the whole test and ODI tour.

First of all, it would be unfair to say that Younis khan cant hit uppish shot (sixes). Surprise Surprise, he hit one gorgeous straight hit off Zaheer in last match.

I will agree with Kamran Akmal comment that his performanes (read keeping) went from good to below average during the one day series. He must not relax and assume that his place is permanent otherwise he will commit more keeping mistakes. So far, his mistakes havent cost us much but in upcoming tough tours, a mistake could prove to be hazardous.

Faisal I totally agree with your point that Inzimam has shown complete confidence in Younis’s leadership abilities. He stuck with him after first test and he has sent Younis for interviews and stuff. There cant be two opinions about the fact tht for the first time Pakistan is ‘grooming’ a captain. His skills will come in further light during the first test against WI.
