Hitler and American politics

This is precisely why I can no longer consider myself a Republican.](Latest news from around the world | The Guardian)

Go to www.georgewbush.com, W’s official campaign website. Normally I wouldn’t advise giving that site the respect of a few extra hits, but this is insane. On the front page, in the main content window, can’t miss it, is a “new web video” entitled “This is not a time for pessimism and rage…”.

That video is a collection of clips of Al Gore and Kerry speaking and Micheal Moore and a few others are thrown in for good effect. But in between each clip they jump to a clip of Adolf Hitler. Now the rationale behind it is that, and now that it’s being reported on they’ve added a weasly sort of-disclaimer, this is the kind of vitriol being hurled against poor ole W. The Hitler clips come from a submission in MoveOn.org’s commercial contest a while back, which had scores of entries. This entry was criticized, by Kerry himself even, and MoveOn removed it from the competition.. it went nowhere and was soundly denounced by all respectable participants. But W’s campaign would have you believe that that is run of the mill when it comes to those dirty libruls. Maybe it is. But isn’t the point supposed to be that you, W, are better, more mature?

Anyway. What I really don’t understand is how this is accepted. Who is the target audience and what could they possibly be thinking?? Now, I’m not so much concerned about the veiled Hitler comparisons. I’m concerned about how god-awful illogical this all is. The point of this message seems to be some kind of absurd group expression of unity around a cult of personality, that these people, the audience, feel persecuted despite controlling every branch of government and having a forum for this kind of inanity and more. The national Republican party has turned into a cult. This is very depressing to me and it is why I can no longer identify with many in that number. Republicans used to be proud of the fact that they had the right idea, now they only want the rightist ideal? How did this happen? It completely boggles my mind! Why isn’t Bush putting ads emphasizing his positions out there? instead of this whining for sympathy, B-level mudslinging. How does the fact that “life sucks, people don’t like me” become a position worthy of election to the Presidency?

Man.. I’m sick. This mindset people have sunken into is pure insanity.

The administration is a joke and the American people and the world are on the butt end of it. Karl Rove knows the gig is up and will try anything to divert the public’s attention away from the administrations multiple failures. They've taken their tag line 'you're either with us or against us" and have applied that to the American people and your right spoon that type of mindset is truly a scary one. The credibility of this administration is nil, cheap tactics like this one I'm sure are just the beginning. They clearly underestimate the American public’s ability to see through this type of garbage or they overestimate the size of their cult that approves of this message. The Bush team is flaying and there's 3+ months to go before the elections, it's going to be ugly.

It’s really sad too, the way he has nothing to stand on. Look at the two campaign websites: www.georgewbush.com and www.johnkerry.com. John Kerry’s main page only mentions Bush twice–in text. He has many of his issues clearly (as clearly as it gets in politics) listed on the front page and obvious links to the rest. W has three pics of Kerry on his index and only one of himself (in a cowboy hat). There are more mentions of Kerry on Bush’s front page than actual substance from Bush. His issues aren’t prominently displayed on his front page and to get to them takes a few extra clicks. Why can’t Bush stand up for himself, on his own record? He’s been in office for 3+ years.. hasn’t he done something to be proud of, something he can point to without doubt and controversy surrounding the facts of it?

It really is a cult. Luckily, from what I see in some places, the local level Republican activities aren’t so terribly diminished. But it still isn’t a healthy picture overall.

Oh, sorry “this isn’t a time for pessimism”. I think I hear Goebbels knocking.

Spoon and UTD, its nice that Framkstien has put his picture fornt and center on his webiste, however, I do have a question for you...From the list of issues he states on his website, where do you think he stands on those? Do the answers change daily like he changes his stance on every important issue he voted on.

Keep punping him up, your boy has no chance. None what so ever.
