Who are the most read history writers of Pakistan?
Do you think that they have presented their views neutrally?

Re: History Writers in Pakistan
Who are the 'history writers' in Pakistan? Any names?
I am currently assisting an undergraduate student with their History dissertation on Mission Cabinet, and the poor soul is quite apprehensive of considering Pakistani Historians simply because it's hard to track down the sources they've used. The sanification of Jinnah and the profound level of religiosity and piousness associated with his character is not History, and that's exactly what my student is trying to avoid.

Dr Mubarak Ali ( Pakistan in Search of Identity: Ali Mubarak: 9789350020999: Amazon.com: Books)
K K Aziz (ROZ O SHAB: I like K K Aziz for his work…)
Tariq Ali (Tariq Ali: Books, Comics & Magazines | eBay)
Dr Sibt e Hasan (Pakistan Mein Tehzeeb Ka Irtiqa / پاکستان میں تہذیب کا ارتقاء by Sibte Hassan | Goodreads)
Re: History Writers in Pakistan
As we say in Britain, study historians before you study history. I'd do a quick background check on these historians before reading anything form them. I know Tariq Ali offers a socialist angle, but will give him a another go.

I agree. Here is link for further research:

Oh I'm familiar with Aisha Jalal and I have her book The Sole Spokesman: Jinnah, the Muslim League and the Demand for Pakistan. I actually haven't read the book from start to finish (story of my life), but have read few passages. I'll give her another ago.
Brilliant. Looks like my reading for weekend is sorted.
Re: History Writers in Pakistan
I favour, Dominique lapiere and Larry Collins duo, both of their books, O jerusalem (About formation of Israel) and Freedom at midnight are simply zabardast :)
For critical study of our society, it is Sir Naipaul who is my favourite :)

Is it true that Naipal is excessively anti-Muslim? I never read him.. One of my colleague who is more into history and stuff ( I say him jo kitab deemak choR jae aap usse bhi nahin choRte) expressed these views.

Then Naipaul is more anti-Hinduism, as he criticized Hinduism before he embarked on muslim phase. He is a critique at best, he is a writer who writes about people like us, not kings. He is more than any explanation that I can give here. He is the only writer whose books I have read more than thrice :)

Interesting. I would give him a try. Who are famous historians in India who got neutral / unbiased credentials?
