History of the Palistine problem

I’m not sure if this was the right place to post this but bascically, I’m after a dumbed down version/summary (this can’t be easy) of the history of Palistine, Israel and exactly what has been going on between them. e.g - technically whose land is it? who started it? why did it start? islam, christianity, Judaism e.t.c

I would like to find out more about this issue, and I’m probably gonna be passing this information on to others.

i am not certain if this is appropriate… :confused: A “summary” report (not really a ‘summary’ per se as it seems quite long) of the “Origin of the Palestine- Israeli conflict” by the organization, Jews for Justice.

A good source for documents (such as the Balfour Declatation) relating to Palestine and Israel, is this website started by a British bloke, Brian Whitaker, the Middle East correspondent for the respected (i think) British newspaper, The Guardian.

Abbreviated History of the Palestinian Problem

  1. The Jews had it first. Or maybe some Muslims did.
  2. Whoever had it first built a holy site there.
  3. Whoever had it first, it got taken away by the other.
  4. Whoever had it second built a holy site there.
  5. Then it got taken back by the guys who had it first and they built another holy site there.
  6. Then it got taken back by the guys who had it second and they built another holy site there.
  7. Then the Turks took it and claimed it as part of the Ottoman empire.
  8. Then, it got taken away from the Turks.
  9. The guys who took it from the Turks carved it up and gave it to a bunch of people (Syrians, Jordanians, Lebanese, Jews and Palestinians).
  10. The Arabs didn’t like that the Jews got a piece so they tried to take it away. Instead, the Jews took away land from the Arabs.
  11. Then the Arabs tried again and the Jews just took more land.
  12. Then the Jews gave some land back to some of the Arabs.
  13. The Arabs didn’t want to lose any more land to the Jews so they stopped trying to take any away from them and they left the Palestinians to fend for themselves.
  14. Since then, the Jews and Palestinians have been arguing about who had it first.
