**As we are celebrating Pakistan 60th Independence day celebrations, lets make a joint effort to have a recap and look back in time to recall some amazing moments from the history of Pakistan cricket. **
I am hoping we all can contribute in this thread and write something about the memorable moments of Pakistan cricket dating back to 1952 as well as something about the world cl****ass cricketers which our country has produced.
It’s a little too late to start such a thread before 14th August but I am sure we all can make an effort, so please do contribute your bit to the thread!
Re: History of Pakistan Cricket: Some Amazing Moments
GREAT CASCADE…!! and here is my ten cents worth;
FIRSTLY, on CRICKET, we must ALL salute to the following;
Justice A.R.Corneleus, the first Chairman of BCCP..followed by
I. A. Khan, ICS son of Nawab Ismail Khan…Quaid e Azam’s right hand man.
and then the CRICKETERS like;
GHAZALI, YAWAR SAEED’S DAD, HANIF MUHAMMAD, WAZIR MUHAMMAD, RAIS MUHAMMAD, NASIMUL GHANI, SAEED AHMED, KHAN MUHAMMAD, WALLIS MATHAIS, FAZAL MEHMOOD, IMTIAZ AHMED, JEHANGIR KHAN..THE LIST GOES ON..AND ON…followed by our heros like IMRAN KHAN, JAVED MIANDAD, ZAHEER ABBAS, MAJID KHAN, ASIF IQBAL, MUSHTAQ MUHAMMAD, INTIKHAB ALAM, WASIM BARI…then followed by;
WASIM AKRAM, VAQAR YUNIS, INZAMAMUL HAQ, SHAHID AFRIDI…and then its FULL STOP for the time being.
FIRST CLASS CRICKET BY “PUNJAB EAGLETS” and the FAMOUS CRICKET MATCHES AT LAHORE BETWEEN “GOVT.COLLEGE & ISLAMIA COLLEGE” ON SUNDAYS DURING MID-50’s through EARLY SIXTIES…played a cogent role in bringing Pakistan close to acquire the TEST playing Nation’s status. THE FIRST OFFICIAL TEST MATCH FOR PAKISTAN WAS PLAYED IN LAHORE BETWEEN PAKISTAN & INDIA IN 1957-58…THEREAFTER FOLLOWED VARIOUS WITH PAKISTAN INITIALLY DITHERING. THE GREAT OVAL FETE UNDER ABDUL HAFEEZ KARDAR… WHEN FAZAL CREAMED THE ENGLISH TOP ORDER LIKE A DISH OF ASPARAGUS…THE ENGLISH NEWSPAPER HAD HEADLINES STATING “ENGLAND FAZALLED BY PAKISTAN” WAS THE START OF THE SERIES OF WINS.
CRICKET IN PAKISTAN GOT MAJOR BOOST UNDER BCCP CHAIRMAN I.A.KHAN AN ICS & FEDERAL SECRETARY.
THE DOWNFALL STARTED WITH BCCP BECOME RICHER & THE CRICKETERS BECOMING POORER…WHICH TURNED SOUR WHEN CRICKETERS STARTED BECOMING RICHER & CRICKET ITSELF..VERY POOR.:naraz:
MAIN PERSON TO BLAME HERE IS AUSTRALIA’S KERRY PACKER WHO COMMERCIALIAZED CRICKET HENCE ALL GOT BEREFT.:teary1:
SHARJAH CRICKET GAVE A GREAT BOOST TO PAKISTANI CRICKET BUT BETTING TOOK MAJOR BIRTH WHEN INDIANS FELT THE HEAT OF LOOSING ONE AFTER THE OTHER–EXCEPT FOR A MAJOR AND MOST EXCITING WIN AGAINST PAKISTAN IN 1985 HAVING BEING SKITTLED OUT FOR 125 AND CLOBBERING PAKISTAN FOR 85 WITH JM ON DUCK!
THE 1992 WORLD CUP WIN WAS BASICALLY ALLAH’S GIFT DURING THE HOLY MONTH OF RAMAZAN…WHICH WAS ALSO A NATURE’S WAY TO HELP IMRAN BUILD SKMT TO TREAT THE CANCER PATIENTS.
PAKISTAN CRICKET HAS COME A LONG WAY SINCE 1957-58 AND IN MY OPINION, THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN A POSITION CURRENTLY… TO BE LISTED AS A “THREE” TIME HOLDER OF “WORLD CUP” IN CRICKET…THE GOD GIVEN CHANCES WE NEVER CAPITALIZED AFTER 1992 THOUGH WE WERE NEAR THE CUP IN 1987 AS WELL IF IT WASn’t FOR THAT DICKIE BIRD AND HIS STUPENDOUS DECISION ON GIVING IMRAN OUT FOR THAT STUPID BOWL & APPEAL OF ALLAN BORDER.
THERE HAVE BEEN MANY AMAZING MOMENTS FOR PAKCRICK BUT IF WE ARE TO CHOOSE; MY BETS WOULD BE ON FOLLOWING AS THE GREATEST MOMENTS OF PAKISTAN CRICKET SINCE ITS INCEPTION:
TEST WIN AGAINST ENGLAND UNDER KARDAR.
THE WORLD CUP-1992 (Thanks to ALLAH)
THE CENTURY BY BOOM BOOM AFRIDI IN 37 BALLS AT KENYA.
THE 95 IN ODI BY SAEED ANWAR AT BANGLORE OR CHENNAI AGAINST INDIA.
( This record has survived at least four times that I know of…):naraz:
THE TWO CLASSIC HAT TRICKS BY WASIM AKRAM AT SHARJAH.
Re: History of Pakistan Cricket: Some Amazing Moments
From an Indian point of view ,the brightest moments in Pakistan cricket history are
1. Imran khan's great performance of 1982 -83 series against India.That was the greatest ever performance from a pakistani fast bowler in a series .
2.Pakistan's historic wins in 1986 India ,1987 England .
3.This one is big winning a test against the mighty WI at thier backyard and leveling the series in 1988.
4.nehru cup 1989
5.The biggest glory ,WC1992
6.Test series victroy in 1992 against England
7.Karachi test 1994 against the Aussies
8.Sydney 1995 ,last time pakistan beat the Aussies at their backyard
9.C&U triangular series
10.Durban test 1998
11.Chennai test and subsequent Asia test championship
12.England series 2005 ,India series 2005
13.Karach 2006 against India.
Those from my memories ,i don't remember much about the old cricket achievments .talking abt the single individual moments .
Javed Miandad's six in 1986 and Wasim akram's two deliveries at the Melbourne 1992 .
From an outsider's view.

Re: History of Pakistan Cricket: Some Amazing Moments
^ Awww you don't have Muhammad Yousuf in your list. I think history of Pakistan cricket is incomplete without him.
I am sorry I forgot BUT then again...Yusuf's achievement are of recent past..I talked about the PAST PAST where fortunately Afridi found a place...and see that Shoaib Akhtar never did...because of his inconsistency and absolute tardy behavior!

EXCELLENT and I am proud to be the part of history where I was at the very stadium when;
Pakistan beat the brains out of Kangaroos (Inzy - Mushy partnership)
Karachi TEST-2006 (everyone with me including Chairman PCB Shehryar Mian's wife Minnal..my relative, said we've lost this match when Pathan made a hat trick. I was the lone wolf to say "wait till we bowl!!")
AND....I can never ever forget that SIX I watched sitting next to Asif Iqbal at Sharjah Stadium when Simi Garewal almost cried bitter tears alongside Mrs. Godrej from India!!! Late that night at dinner by Bukhatir at Sharjah Continental, I caught hold of Chetan Sharma and said "too many suggestions from Shastri, Kapil and Azhar made you convert that block hole into a full toss..eh ?" to which he said "wellllll...if Azhar had thrown the ball he shyed at stumps...we had the Cup in our hands"...and I replied "IF...?"
Re: History of Pakistan Cricket: Some Amazing Moments
None of you seem to remember (including you Raju bhai :D ) the absolutely mind blowing spell by Choudhry Sarfraz Nawaz (also referred to as the Father of reverse swing) at Melbourne in 1979, as he literally snatched the match out of the throat of the Aussies, it was unbelievable how Pakistan won the match that everyone had written off.
P.S.
The above comment doesn't in any way mean that I rank Sarfraz at par with Immi, Wasim or Waqar, but THAT was his day and we have to give him that.....
My personal opinion
