The Soon Valley is situated between the hills in the Salt Range. The area comes under the administrative control of Khushab District of Punjab Province, in Pakistan. Historically this might have been the extreme end of the region in which the Gandhara art flourished before the arrival of Awan tribes. The valley was a part of the state under the rule of Junjua Rajputs . They were forcibly ousted by the Awan tribes. The Awans, claim that their ancestor, Qutub Shah came along with the army of Sultan Mahmood of Ghazna in the 14th century . He headed Some troops of Alavids who had been given the title, "Awan" by the Sultan
