Thanks Nomi for your input and pointing out the inter-connectivety issue.

But the first arguent from people opposing the celebration is that was not celebrated in Prophet’s or companions’ time. What do you think, whether just a thing not being done in Prophet’s time make that thing Haram or less important? What are the other factors behind this opposition? Is it due to the fact that it was started by a sect they don’t like / follow?

you can have an endless debate on it… the ones supporting it don’t necessarily challenge the proposition that it was started later on…they probably agree that it was started later on… but their point is the bidda’h discussion… and other ‘logics’ and ‘reasonings’ to justify and prove the ok’ness of this practice…
