& converting, somehow, makes the converts better Muslims.

Yes I read about this a in 2004 and 2005 as well. I was really happy to hear this as hispanics constitute a big part of US population.
I have a more than one friends or aquintances of mine who are of puerto-rican /hispanic descent.
One of them, now muslim for a long time, altleast 10 years, taught me how to say "shahadah" in spanish...I practised it on many non muslim hispanics...and they never rejected just said ..good thing to think about...

I will share for the first time on a public forum:
(writing as close as possible to how I say it - if someone knows spanish then please correct the spelling and grammatical errors)
"Dee-ga sulamentay ayondiyos Allah - e Muhammad messanjero e propheta de Allah"
Make sure you say the "r" and "d" as it is said in arabic or I guess spanish..

All of my freinds I know are in the detroit and suburb areas.
One is a handyman / construction.
Other one is in clothing and books - islamic store stuff - he is also 
learning a lot as well and reads arabic books on hadeeth and fiqh now..
We had him give a khutbah or two and we were all very moved -
Another one and his brother live in detroit - I don’t know what they are doing these days but he Abdur-Rehman told me a EEMAN rich story of his grandmother embracing islam…goes like this..
he had been told that she was on his death bed in puerto rico and he wanted to see her …
so he went there but when he got there the family told him that she has stopped talking for a few days now…
He went in to see and she signalled for him to come close…
when he got close she whispered in his ear to tell her about islam…
Obviously he had talked to her and all of them so many times before about Islam and accepting Islam…
Well he did tell her and she repeated the shahadah after him… then she did not talk to him or anyone else after that for the remaining 2-3 days she was alive and all she would do is point with her index finger to the sky (maybe signalling that Allah is One)
and then she passed. …
Allah-o-Akbar on how Allah will save a soul from hell fire by giving them guidance before death…
I am almost teary eyed everytime I think of this…

many latina's (in particular)have converted to Islam ...Alhamdulillah...i personally know 3 of them. I also know 2 that are very much interested in learning about Islam.
Many of the converts say they are choosing Islam because they feel the religion gives them a direct contact with God without saints and a hieracrchy. They questioned Catholicism because of this...and for many the recent molestation issues has turned them away from Catholicism as well.

explains her agony when she was deciding in her mind as to which is the right way to connect with GOD / Allah....

I know one Mexican female who embraced Islam about 20 years ago and married a Pakistani. I met her last year. I was really impressed by her. She raised her kids according to Islamic culture. She doesn't but her daughter wears hijaab. They're closer to Pakistani culture than Mexican/US culture. Its kinda nice to know.

I have yet to meet a latina Muslim but the way their reputation is--majority of teenage pregnancies are frm latinas--and how they're portrayed in the media (which is prety disgusting) its no surprise really to c them turning to Islam, which gives them honor, respect, self worth. The same goes for black women, actualy matter of fact for all women who decide to convert, i'm pretty sure that is just one factor in their decision..

indeed.. I belive that those who converted to Islam are far more better then US.. the studied the Islam and got to the true spirit of its teachings and then they CHOSE it to be their religion and way of life...WE took it for granted, hardly 5% of BORN muslims know the REAL Islam, and STILL we believe that we are destined for Heavens.

I know some - male and female. Its pretty refreshing to see converts from different ethnicities. Islam isn't just for brown people.
