depends largely on the kind of business and the location one is in.
A friend started an online consultancy, where people he recruited were from around England and Scotland, they would meet once a month but other then that all work was carried out from home office ..
the operation required strong technical and data protection steps to be taken but generally he felt unhappy with a lot of things, like he had no control over the client meets, the consultants routines, initially he didnt have a very strong CRM system in place and two consultants left with significant data that they copied ! so from business security perspective this employer felt very vulnerable ..
also the turnover rate was very high ..
Have no idea about free lancing .. I did it years ago, but that was at the very early stages of my career, dont remember much from that time though ..perhaps someone else can help here in that regard..
