It's sad what desperation can lead people to do. But honestly, I think it's best for them to stay in Heera Mandi than be out in the streets. If the prostitutes/dancers were out in the streets, life would be more dangerous for them IMO... have even more guys pick them up and then afterwards... anything violent can happen. At least they're in a well-known location.

^I agree, its better for them to have a place so people who wanna avoid such things can just avoid going to the place. It's also better for the crime rate. The masjid you're mentioning is Badshahi mosque, I believe, and its next to it.
