India seeks Myanmar’s help to curb insurgency By Iftikhar Gilani
NEW DELHI: India is seeking cooperation from its eastern neighbour, Myanmar, to flush out militant groups active in its troubled north-eastern states.
An official spokesman of India’s Home Ministry said that India would raise the issues of insurgent groups operating from Myanmar and effective measures to reduce such occurrences at the 12th national level meeting of Home Secretaries of India and Myanmar, to be held from Wednesday.
… “Steps to curb smuggling of arms and illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances will also be discussed at the four-day talks,” said the spokesman.
Sources in the security establishment say that insurgent groups from Manipur and Nagaland like United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA), United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) and two factions of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) are operating from Myanmar and New Delhi will utilise the opportunity to demand their flushing out.
Re: Hindustan seeks Myanmar’s help to curb insurgency
Its always the same problem - their govt. focuses on India, so that the masses' attention is diverted from their internal problems and Pakistani's do that so they may feel good about their country.
Wonder when they will stop worrying about India, and start thinking about their own country ?
Re: Hindustan seeks Myanmar’s help to curb insurgency
Is their a stat showing the no. of topics started by a pakistani on india and viceversa. The irony is that after almost 60 years some pakistanies needs to keep reminding of their existance.:)
Re: Hindustan seeks Myanmar’s help to curb insurgency
^ forget about the number of topics/threads about India for a second, how many people have been killed by ULFA, UNLF, PLA and NSCN? just curious? How pro-India are these movements/organizations?
Re: Hindustan seeks Myanmar’s help to curb insurgency
So .. Govt of India is dealing with it and most of this state overwhelmingly participate in elections and democratic processes. The people are pro india or ateast dont want to cede to Pakistan :). There is talks between ULFA and the govt of India. I think two weeks back there was one. Whatever greivance they have should be addressed. Tripura is ruled by the communist and i think that state is the most vulnerable because of its proximity to myanmar and most of the rebels are tribals and has their cousins living in the jungles of myanmar. ULFA dont have much following in the local people of Assam.
Re: Hindustan seeks Myanmar’s help to curb insurgency
i just dont understand, why pakistan always focuses on the neighbours and dont care about what the hell is goin on within?? and dude, the truth is the myanmar seeks india's help, it is not india that seeks myanmar's help. india does not need any favours from anyone. even during tsunami, india stood by themselves and also helped sri lanka and others
But the head of ULFA Paresh Baruha is just trying to hide himself in Bangladesh. ULFA is not more than a threat only on paper. They are still powerful but Govt of India can shift + delete them any time
Thanx to Pakistan who had tried hard to support this group.
