‘Hitler’s Cross’ bows out to international pressure
MUMBAI: The owners of a Nazi-themed Mumbai restaurant apologised on Friday for naming the eatery “Hitler’s Cross,” saying they were only looking for a name that would be “different”.
The apology came a day after the owners announced that they would rename the restaurant following a storm of protest from Jews in India and abroad, including Israel and Germany.
“The name adopted by us was most inappropriate. Our intention was not to glorify Hitler, his atrocities or ideology,” said Satish Sabhlok, one of the owners of Hitler’s Cross restaurant located in the eastern suburbs of India’s financial capital.
