AHMEDABAD: Hindu nationalists resumed a controversial march in India’s Gujarat state on Saturday, a week after it was deferred because of fears it would re-ignite violence between Hindus and Muslims after a deadly attack on a temple.
The “Gaurav Yatra” (Pride March), which was launched by Chief Minister Narendra Modi last month, has rolled peacefully through Gujarat’s villages in the past few weeks despite fears it might incite a fresh round of communal violence in the sensitive state.
“Gujarat will not let terrorism gain further inroads. Terrorism has no form, no shape and I am sure it has no future,” Chief Minister Narendra Modi told a cheering crowd of about 15,000 people in the temple town of Ambaji, 190 km, north of Ahmedabad, the state’s main city.
The march has been organised by the state wing of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), barely six months after more than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed in religious riots in Gujarat.
This is the fourth leg of the 5,000-km march. During this phase, the march is expected to cover 400 km. Modi has said the march aims to highlight the achievements of his state government, but analysts say its real motive is to consolidate the polarisation of voters along religious lines ahead of state poll in November and December.

Asifk kabir etc... I am not debating if all hindus in india are fanatics... I am concentrating on your beloved Modi and the way he giving the green signal for this march to go on... If you think you guys are so secular, or care so much about your Muslims, why do you let such marches go on, especially if you certify that they are a bunch of Hindu fanatics? Ok, I see your point brother... You are implying the same thing as me, but why dont you Muslims then declare the secularism in your country has failed miserably. Why is it being cherished so much by the Hindus in your country? It was clear that your government, and your police assisted these mob riots. How can such marches go on after incidents like that? waiting for your reply (since everyone else is busy with the US/iraq these days)...

bjp has come to power in delhi because of coailition partners and regional parties.
yes there is a lot of police bais. but you see just as we cannOT Blame all pakistanis for attacks on christians in pakistan likewise all hindus cannot be painted with same brush. but its true that a large number of hindus have joined rss and militant hindus are on rise .
and if bjp stays in power for another term not the muslims but the hindus will declare that secularism has failed in india

You talked about the attacks on Christians in Pakistan. There is alot difference between the two analogies... The attacks in Pakistan were isolated, the attackers were masked, handful, whereas the ones in India were carried on by large mobs, supported by the police, and on a much larger scale. I dont think we can blame any Pakistani for those attacks. So my friend, there is a big difference b/w the two.
