Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

In a unique display of solidarity between Hindus and Muslims, a large number of Hindus joined the Muharram rally in Umaria in Madhya Pradesh on Monday night, keeping alive a tradition dating back to 1882.
The rally reportedly included 25,000 Hindus as part of a tradition started by Baba Madhav Singh in 1882.
“Hindus in large numbers had traditionally been participating in the rally. On the night of Shahadat, thousands of Baba’s devotees took part in the rally wearing green scarf on head and ‘sehali’ around the neck and chanting slogans. It was difficult to differentiate between Hindus and Muslims,” Imambada’s Mujabar Syed Ali Khan said.
He said the responsibility to look after the arrangement of the Muharram rally was on Hindus.
Mateshwar Durga Puja Seva Samiti’s Ganesh Sachdev said all members of the Samiti contributed towards preparation of ‘langar.’
He recalled that Muharram and Dussehra had fallen on same dates in 1983. Both communities had celebrated the festivals together. On the one hand, Divine Mother’s procession was being carried out, on the other immersion of Tazia took place.

This is an example worth emulating.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

kewl, good work, altough I believe one does not necessarily have to take part in the religious rituals of another to show solidarity and understanding. Respect for others and their rights to practice their faith is paramount, however which way you can, just do it.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

Its a tradition started in 1882.

Bismillah Khan, a devout muslim used to play devotional music in Banaras. He was honoured with highest award Bharat Ratna. His last words were, throughout my journey of sangeet, I could not find a sur which could bind all human beings together.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

I am not againt it, I am just stating a point that while this is good, this is not the only way to show solidarity with others. Dont get me wrong.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

How Hindus can talk of solidarity with other religions if as per Hindu religion all non-Hindus are 'Malechh'...sub humans?
Though the problem is same with other religions. For Hindus...others are Mallechh, sub-humans, for some the rest are un-beleivers, un-clean etc.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

solidarity and acceptance is not agreement. I dont have to agree with your faith but can be accepting of your right to practice your fait and its rituals, and be with you if someone decides to challenge your rights or to demonize you or your faith. to me that is solidarity.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

Malechch was term used centuries ago. I don't agree with you that this term in vogue these days. But let me tell you one thing there are many cities in India where Hindus and Muslims have learnt to live peacefully. They have realised that mischief mongers should not be allowed to play havoc with society.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

No it is hipocrisy, if one shows solidarity with other communities but cannot whole heartdly reject something abusive written in his own religion for others.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

No, not centuries ago. And the term ‘Malechch’ is well mentioned in many Hindu house holds.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

i think the ppl who brought up the word malech in this thread are Indian members. dunno if they steped inside india or not though maybe they are abcd types

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

There are two meanings of malech. One is 'foreigner' and the other is 'immoral' or 'inferior' kinda person. I think the latter one seems to be the correct one.

Re: Hindus join Muharram rally in MP town

Hiiii all
I am basically from Mumbai, India and accidently came across this GupShup forum.

I really appreciate the quality and meaningful discussions by you guyz and it's a pleasant surprise for me to see so many learned individuals from Pakistan.

Since it's my first post, all I can say is that, all religions are for peaceful co-existence. As some other people here said it rightly, if one can co-exist peacefully along with other faith, that does not mean he will loose his own faith.

Thanks for starting such dialogues.
