Re: Hindus feel the heat in Pakistan
Folks
I have worked in Karachi and have had multiple Christians and Hindus as my co-workers. My first administrator was a Hindu and a gem of a person. Our biggest whole saler in Sind was also a Hindu who did multi-million dollars of business with us. I personally hired many Hindus for jobs in interior Sind just for the fact that they were the most qualified of the people I interviewed.
So the point that I am making is that minorities in Pakistan are no better or worse off than minorities in other parts of third world. Let us not compare ourselves with the more developed societies like US, Singapore or even Malaysia.
Comparing the plight of the minorities of Pakistan versus India it is safe to say that we have a much better record than our "secular" neighbor. With the grace of God in the past 60 years there has not been a single incident which is close to the many massacres that have been committed in India. Name and quote one such incident where with the connivance of the government Hindus or Christians were systematically pillaged. Indian history is unfortunately full of such accounts and it continues to happen to this day.
Now talking about the blasphamy laws we also have hudood laws for muslim women which are equally draconian. We cannot talk about one and ignore the other as both were passed at the same time to please the mullahs of Pakistan by Zia. These laws need to be abolished and will be for sure as it is just a matter of time
The problem with Pakistanis is that we are too pessimistic and look at only the bad in Pakistan while ignoring the good. Although we have a lot to improve but compared to India we are still a much more embracing society when it comes to treating minorities.
My sincere wish is that we keep improving as a society and become more open to other religions and ideas. It is the halmark of a progressive nation
