TG, don't we have some unfinished business (don't mean it in a bad way), I never got to finish my discussion with you from long ago ...
Re: Hindus and Cows
This is what i dont like in islam, to teach others what their faith is. I eat beaf abd pork and let god punish me for that, i am sorry but who are u to judge me. And who gave you the permission to declare that people who eat beaf are non hindu. Hinduism has evolved through centuries, and that is what i like about it. Evolution, nothing is permanant neither u, me or gupshup.:). Change is only thing that is permanant. if you can call that God be it.
So is there any other crieteria of being Hindu other than not eating cows. If religion is to believe blindly then i dont believe in any religion. If religion is to folow bearded sanyasin or maulavi or a white coated preist then i dont believe in that. Religion is only a moral code that enabled primitive humans to function in social manner. if some of the rules are outdated then its time to change. If not then change will be forced on you. That has been the history of humans so far and continue to be so.

Re: Hindus and Cows
Did it ever occur to you that religion is not about your individuality but about God? The very premise that you say your religion is evolving with time tells that it is really tied into your individuality but not telling about God. God does not evolve with time.
Re: Hindus and Cows
hi to ssingh i belong to india, i really appreciate whatever you replied about hindus and cows.very well said and tackled. :biggthumb
(1) In ancient or vedic times they were source of milk (2) They are considered as gift of God to mankind because they do not take anything from human beings. They just feed on anything that is there and give milk and as well as bulls plough the land for agriculture (3) cow dung is considered as an excellent source of fertilizer, also a fuel and also as a disinfectant (4)In hinduism, human characteristics are divided into Three based on his desires. Those characteristics are called *gunas *in sanscrit. They are *tamasic, rajasic and sativic *Gunas.
Every human being has all these gunas in varying proportions. A cows milk and butter is 'considered' to increase *satvic *tendency in a human being. so cows are given importance.
In short if i explain, people with more tamasic nature will run more towards meeting their carnal desires like sex, sleep, laziness etc, those with more rajasic tendencies are more status conscious and those with satva guna are more spiritual nature. They are well balanced and more capable of handling temptations. In vedas, cows are mentioned in many places. Sometimes are to be interpreted literally and majority of the times symbolically according to aurobindo.

Re: Hindus and Cows
Not really dude.
Here, watch this movie to see Hindus worshipping cow and prostrating before it. Holy Cow | Hinduism's Sacred Animal | Nature | PBS
ssingh, you cannot deny this movie and the hindus worshipping cow. Even in the temple shown, the Hindus are worshipping cow…
Re: Hindus and Cows
I have already said that religion is just a moral code. As codes evolve with time so does religion. God is personal. The attributes that you give to your God might be different from mine. Religion utilizes that attribute of God to order complaince from its pupils.
It will also comfort you to know that 98% of human genes are similar to a chimpanzee. How far in your lineage can you name ur grandfathers. What comfort does it make that your 10^1000000 is a monkey. :). Insecurities..
Re: Hindus and Cows
Can you please get out of this thread and stop teaching hindus what to worship and what not to. Look, if we consider cow to be god then we would have not let cows roam the street or not hit it if it is misbehaving and things like that. It gives us milk and hence we respect it. I get myself worshiped sometimes but does that mean I am god. These are rituals and that has nothing to do with considering cow as God. There are also other animals which we worship, like snakes, monkeys etc. But that doesnt mean that we equate them to god. We try not to kill any animals. Why am I telling this to you.. who dont even value human life.:smack:
Re: Hindus and Cows
Only god is worshipped and to say we worship other animals but we do not equate them with god is a little too simple for anyone to believe…
Only god is worshipped, right?
vinesh,
Talk about the movie. What did you see in it?
Mujh pey itna ghussa kyun yaar, be angry at those who made that movie, showing the hindus worshipping cows in a backyard and in a temple…
So you confessed more than I wanted you to… by admitting you worship snakes and monkeys also ![]()
Re: Hindus and Cows
I apologize on behalf of them ssingh. I hope your opinion of muslims overall hasn't suffered from this.
Re: Hindus and Cows
I never wrote in my reply that hindoos are inferior. It is your feeling only....
Prostration is equivalent to worshiping someone which inturn means attributing devinity to someone. And whatever you do, it is definitly your own religion, I have nothing to do with it. And the whole point is that Hindoos worship cow. You should be proud of it and not feel inferior/upset when someone is mentioning cow worship or is talking about it.
I guess I have made my point very clear.
Re: Hindus and Cows
Although I spent some time editing some posts and cleaning up the thread, but I realize I’m better off locking this thread. It’s sad to see so many grown ups stoop so low and attack each other’s faith. Dispicable. ![]()
