MULTAN: A Sikh organisation, the Khalisa Gurbat Parchar Committee, on Sunday threatened to march on Islamabad, if Hindus refused to leave their place of worship (Gurudawara) in Deharki.

A Sikh leader from Peshawar, Sardar Amar Singh, said: “Sindu extremists and police raided their worshipping place and demolished two towers of Gurudawara. But Sikhs foiled their bid to occupy it. If the government does not resolve this dispute, we will lodge a protest.” A Hindu leader, Makki Shevak Ram, claimed: “It is not a worshipping place for the Sikhs but a temple which was constructed by Sant Bhoja Ram some 340 years ago, and we will not surrender it in any way. The Sikhs should construct their own temple or the government should provide funds for the construction of a Gurudawara.”Sikh leaders Sardar Arjun Singh, Sardar Bhagat Singh, Sardar Santosh Singh, Bhati Nanak Ram, Sardar Shankar Lal, Makki Gopi Ram, Sardar Chandar Singh, Sardar Parkash Singh and Sardar Amar Singh told reporters at a joint press conference that it was their temple. “But we allowed the Hindus to worship in this temple so as to unite the minorities. Now, Hindu leader Makki Shevak Ram, who is playing the role of Baal Thakaray in Pakistan, is trying to occupy this temple again,” they added.

Looks like assertive Hindutva might have crossed the border…

On a separate but somewhat related note, are Sikhs in Pakistan permitted to carry kirpans?

I am sure this is just a one off incident. Pakistani Hindu's have always been a tolerant and inclusive community, who have excellent relations with all religious communities.

I am really surprised at this and would be suspicious at the authenticity of this new report. I have never heard of minority on minority violence in Pakistan before.

Very strange indeed. The incident MUST be stringently investigated and all guilty parties brought to justice. Particularly if the police are involved, head must roll!!!

This Shevak Ram character seems like a trouble maker. Look at what he got up to earlier this year…

You want to talk about police helping spread violence lets talk about Gujerat or the Babri Masjid ok?

This is a Pakistani issue to be resolved by Pakistani Sikhs and Hindus…No foriegn interference is required

As for asking about what “Sindhu” is, it just shows ignorance about the origins of your own faith, maybe you should ask LK Advani whats a “Sindhu” :hehe:

^:hehe:

weird

well, atleast pak hindus have proven that they are active and not at all introverted.

if one goes through the dawn link, hindus have once again proven that they can pelt stones at pak vehicles :D

during my last visit to pak,one hindu i met in thatta told me that hindu business men were often being kidnapped for ransom... :D
