Hindu leader accused over comments

Amnesty International has called for an urgent investigation into inflammatory statements reportedly made by a right-wing Indian Hindu leader.

The London based human rights groups said it was “alarmed at repeated inflammatory statements” made by Ashok Singhal, the international working president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, an extreme right-wing ally of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

It feared the comments could endanger the safety of the minority Muslim community in India.

More than 1,000 people, mostly Muslims, were killed early this year in riots sparked by an attack on a passenger train in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

Urgent action requested

Amnesty quoted Ashok Singhal as having said: “What happened in Gujarat will happen in the whole of the country,” and that the recent massacres in Gujarat were a; “successful experiment…which will be repeated all over the country.”

“Investigations to establish Singhal’s responsibilities in relation to the reported statements should be initiated as a matter of urgency and appropriate action, including possible prosecution, should be taken accordingly,” Amnesty said in a statement.

It said India’s Human Rights Commission had also called for firm action on provocative statements which have the potential to incite communal tensions and violence.

Police charges

Section 153 (a) of the Indian Penal Code prescribes prosecution for “promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion.”

Amnesty’s call coincides with a case filed by the Indian police against another Hindu nationalist leader, for remarks which the police feared could stoke religious tensions.

Bal Thackeray, leader of the hardline Hindu nationalist Shiv Sena, faces charges for a speech in which he called for Hindus to form suicide squads to take on terrorists.

But Mr Thackeray has denied that his remarks were directed at Indian Muslims and says they were aimed only against terrorists.

Very sad :(

******* hindu extremist!!!!

What is the difference between Talebans and VHP?

VHP is a hard core Hindu Madrisa. Fundamentalists of all religions must welcome it.
We can say that even democracy cannot prevent entry of Talebans to power.

The only difference between Hindu extremists and Muslim extremists, is that he Hindu extremists havent struck outside of India, so they are considered docile in comparison.

i think 130 million muslims and rest of the population live in peace
in most of the places most of the time. most of the situation are artificially created or due to roumers or ignorence or politically motivated
to grab power through polarising these communties.

rvikz, im sure most Indians do want to live in peace and harmony, but the communal hatred that the BJP/VHP/RSS/Shiv Sena have inflicted upon the people of Gujarat may eventually be witnessed throughout India. After the murderous campaign carried out by VHP supporters, thousands of muslims in Gujarat State are now being treated worse than animals by the Hindutva Authorities.

Gujarat Doctors: Growing Communal Divide](Where to Buy Diamond Pendants, Diamond Stud Earrings and Diamond Necklaces -) Excerpt

**Outbreaks of measles and other infections in relief camps in Gujarat are warning signs of impending epidemics, as health services are unprepared to handle the public health disaster looming over the state. Thousands of adults and children are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after experiencing and witnessing brutal violence, but their needs are being ignored by government health services. **Doctors are providing limited treatment in difficult circumstances, but have not documented critical medical evidence, including that of sexual violence, thus jeopardizing legal action against the criminals. Finally, growing communal divides within the medical profession indicate that the medical community faces serious ethical challenges.

These were some key findings of a recently released report of an investigation by the Medico Friend Circle (MFC), a national network of health professionals and activists.

‘Gujarat Carnage and the Health Services: A Public Health Disaster’ looked at the immediate and long-term consequences of the carnage in Gujarat, in terms of health, health services, and the medical profession. In the past two months, an estimated 2,000 adults and children were killed in a State-sponsored attack on the Muslim community, with over 100,000 people forced into relief camps as their homes and workplaces were looted and burnt down.

Driven out of their homes after witnessing the slaughter of their loved ones, the survivors of this attack escaped with grievous injuries, physical and psychological. Today they are crowded into open grounds, protected from the sun only by flimsy tarpaulins, with little food, makeshift bedding, severe water shortages, abominable sanitation, and ‘band-aid’ treatment from the health services. And they may soon be deprived of even this little support, as the government threatens to close down camps.

The team came across many people with serious untreated wounds who had not been referred to hospitals for specialized treatment that was unavailable in camps. Others had chronic diseases such as TB for which they had not received drugs for the last month or more.

The MFC team also commented that health services were ignoring evidence of psychological trauma in people who had experienced or witnessed the worst imaginable brutalities.** For instance, one seven-year-old boy the team met saw his parents being burnt alive, after which he complained that he was injured in his foot and insisted he could not walk. The team examined the boy, found no physical injury, and gently persuaded him to walk for the first time after two months. “Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a known consequence of any disaster,” **noted one of the team members. Yet there is no acknowledgement of the need to provide treatment for PTSD.

According to the report, health services have not tried to reach out to people who cannot come to them for treatment out of fear of attack. And in the camps, those needing more specialized treatment could neither get it from the camp health services, nor get referred to hospitals for further treatment. The tense atmosphere and the on-going violence have kept people from seeking treatment. …

dhp nothing going to happen all are going to get along . there may some
terrible and tragic setbacks but overall peace and stability will prevail.
no amount of provocation by extremist form both sides will drag
the majority of peace-loving people to destroy themselves.

WELL i wont be surprised at all if this statement by hindu vhp terrorist comes true as long as there is a facist govt in the centre.
vhos togadia calls sonia a bitch and gets away with it.
shiv sena leader bal thackray calls for hindus be become terrrorist and goes as far as turning into sucide squads and gets away with it. imagine a muslim leader in india calling for muslims to be terrorist and sucide squad ? he will be arrested under pota and spend rest of his lives in jail
but under this facist govt hindu terrorist are immune to all laws
i will not be surprised if gujrat is repeated

ban any xtremist dont care what religion cause. once many yrs ago I was visiting south India and having dinner with relatives in restaurent - the prez (or whatever he was called) of local vhp approached our table and started conversation - we all laughed him away.

I have interacted with a few VHP members over the net. These guys are nuts and hold views that are extreme and violent. They are dangerous to and for Indian Muslims. And I think Adnan is right: they espouse hatred only for the muslims in india are limiting their ire and hatred to within India. That is the biggest difference.

Dear Old lahori,
On which site did you interact with them?I would also like to.

it is not in the interest of both countries to elect extremist leaders even
if they get majority vote.do not trust the leaders who says they will protect the intersts of a specific community.

Yes, but animals which seem to be in power in Gujrat, and have sympathisers in the Indian BJP-RSS government.

What do you expect from Hindu facists!?

The defence of brothers and sisters across the globe, when faced by oppression as in India, Israel and Chechnya, is the duty of all brothers who are able. Its time to end this Hindu (fanatic) menace.
