India’s main opposition leader has criticised the federal government for scrapping controversial anti-terrorism laws passed by the last government. Bharatiya Janata Party leader LK Advani said the laws were essential to deter attacks such as this week’s attack on a disputed religious site in Ayodhya. The Congress-led government removed the Prevention of Terrorism Act (Pota) after it came to power last year. It felt that the law had been grossly misused, especially against Muslims. Six people were killed when suspected militants attacked a flashpoint religious site in the northern city of Ayodhya on Tuesday.
‘Draconian’
“A special law is required to deal with terrorism - we had made one but to please a particular section of the society the government repealed it,” Mr Advani told reporters ahead of a visit to Ayodhya on Friday. He said most countries had special laws to deal with terrorism. “The only country where government has removed it is India,” he said. Pota was passed in the Indian parliament in 2002 by the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government, in which Mr Advani was the home minister. The law broadened the scope of the death penalty and gave prosecuting lawyers more scope to detain and interrogate suspects.

As has been pointed out, POTA is used to discriminate against Muslims, such as in the aftermath of the Gujrat riots. It’s pretty clear given how the law is used who the targets were.

It bothers me because half my extended family lives in India. Any law in India that discriminates against Muslims discriminates against my family, my flesh and my blood.

ok ji then u ve all rights to be worried but not get too worried.there is no such law now as tada(by congress) or pota(by bjp).infact pota was advanced version of tada only nothing else.

laws r same for all indian citizen of any religion.and as a matter of fact muslim personal board has its own laws,which is allowed in india ,even usa doesnt allow different community to frame their own laws,this is the luxury the indian muslims have being indian citien.if pota is darconian for muslims then it is darconian for hindu ,sikhs and other communities too coz indian law doesnt differentiate between ppl based on their religion.if muslims r implicated in jandk under pota then hindus naxals r implicated in andhra pradesh,sikhs in punjab.so dont see law as being made to curb a minority community.law is to punish ppl who go against the state.be it hindu/muslim/sikh or watever religion that person belong to.

how many were arrested of meerut roits of 87,mujjafaar nagar roits of 92,bhopal roits of 93.well i ve given u the examples of all comunal clashes in india.and mostly of those which are muslim dominated areas.now as of gujart roits well mister u need to know wats going on at presnt abt those cases in india then u must start the blame game.indian supreme court after finding that gujrat bjp govt unduly influencing the cases in gujrat they shifted those cases to mumbai high courts.famous of these cases is best bakery case.all the accused who were released by gujrat high court due to lack of evidence and intimidation of the witnesses were re arrested.sir i duly suggest u to do some research work abt gujrat cases before spewing ur venom against hindoo kafir here.
and regarding the rapes by army in jandk or in meghalaya let me tell u one thing that myself being female ve my solidarity with victims and who ever commits rapes must be sternly dealt with.ur perjudice that indian army is hindoo army and all rapes r done by hindoo soldiers is a sheer case of generalisation and prejudice.coz the last reported rape done by indian army major was a muslim.u cant generalise as such.all this shows ur hatered and makes u look fool on public fora
