Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Expected news. Will she become the first women president of US?

Hillary ‘to announce 2008 plans’

Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton is expected to confirm on Saturday she is forming a committee to consider a 2008 run at the US presidency, reports say.
Ms Clinton is set to disclose plans to take the first step to a presidential bid on her website, unnamed Democrats said according to the Associated Press.
It has been widely anticipated that the former first lady will try to become the nation’s first female president.
**This week Senator Barack Obama said he had formed an exploratory committee. **
**He is one of the Democratic Party’s rising stars, having electrified the 2004 Democratic convention with a powerful speech. **
Mr Obama’s entry into the race would raise the possibility of the US getting its first black president.
Ms Clinton is serving as a senator for New York.
Correspondents say that her unbeatable name recognition and unmatched fundraising ability make her a clear front-runner for the Democrats. Yet she is also seen as a divisive figure. Some estimates say one in three Americans would never vote for her.

Ooo crap

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

It will be fun to watch Musharaf treating Hilary

Re: Hillary ‘to announce 2008 plans’

Hillary Clinton:

Hillary Clinton: I’m in.

Chat with Hillary Clinton and share your ideas.

I hope she does, my vote is for her… :k:

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Democrats will not be good for Musharrafistan. They will take focus away from Iraq and back to Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Al Gore has been presenting his climate message (An Inconvenient Truth) for a year now. This guy has a great message/platform to build a campaign on. If he runs for the presidency, either Barrack or Hillary will lose their bid.

The pundits are wrong: 2008 election will not be just about eye-rack war. It'll be about the environment, the healthcare problem, and other social issues that mullah bush has ignored for past 6 years.

Re: Hillary ‘to announce 2008 plans’

Before this annoucement, she was in Pakistan last week doing just that - meeting Musharraf.

Also, her husband, the ex-President - Bill Clinton visited Pakistan twice last year.

Re: Hillary ‘to announce 2008 plans’

Monica Lewinsky has a brother? May be Hillary will need a White House intern.

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

I want to see Obama running for the elections. His chances are slim though specifically if Algore comes back.
Besides America might be ready for a female but not African American (doesn't matter if he is half black).

Re: Hillary ‘to announce 2008 plans’

Black man stands no chance…

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Hillary is an extremely polarizing person. As a person she doesn't exude any kind of friendliness, humility or warmth. Her candidacy brings all the baggage (good and bad) from Clinton years. She had voted for War on Iraq, and now she has practiclly reversed her position (Kerry syndrome). She has an enormous fund base, and is the most well-connected amongst the growing list of Democratic candidates.

Obama, as charismatic as he may appear, has serious experience issues. Plus his muslim background will be hugely played up by his opponents and will be a big draw-back for middle-America. He will most likely just be a Vice President candidate under Hillary's ticket.

In my personal view, Democrats are always worse for Pakistan and Islam. Their civil liberatarian stands notwithstanding. They are perceived soft on national security so they will likely go overboard to dissuade this criticism, and guess who will be the favorite punching bag... yep, muslims!

Problem is tha at this time, Republicans don't have any serious or strong candidate in the running. Folks like Guilliani and McCain are still scratching their heads, and are likely neither charismatic nor slam dunk.

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

After 8 years of good old silly Bush Hillary's serious, cut-the-BS, would be a welcomes changed and she's a political pro and can turn on the charm when necessary. As far as her having the "Kerry syndrome" this is exactly what the country wants, a leader who will review their decisions and modify them when necessary, not stay the course when it's the wrong way so this 'syndrome' is a plus rather than a negative in todays race.

What Obama lacks in experiences he makes up for with intelligence, sophistication, and clear communication. Again after 8 years of Bush these traits make him a very attractive candidate.

The Democrats as a whole have been the ones concerned with the civil liberties abuses by the Bush admin. which have effected Muslims more than any other group yet you just labeled the Democrats as being the party who's going to go against Muslims. That is truly an unfair judgement based by no facts whatsoever, just a 'from the gut' feeling?

How can a more intelligent war, one with more international support and players be considered bad for Islam? Is it bad for Islam when fundamentalists who use it to justify their terror are taken out? Are they part of team Islam just because they wear the colors?

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

I am providing my opinion, and if you disagree, thats fine. Democrats are generally perceived to be concerned about civil liberties of Americans (incl muslims) and thats a plus for them. Not sure if the same is true for their policies towards muslims around the world.

I think the worst experience muslims and Pakistanis, in particular, have in this regard is the infamous Pressler Amendment, which put US-Pak relations through a huge amount of strain in 80's. Mr Pressler, no doubt, was a democrat. Internationally, we all agree that US policies towards muslims and Pakistan are guided by US national interests at the time, and not static you-are-our-friend-regardless kinda chummy friendship US has towards Israel, so it comes as little surprise that Reagan years were a boon to Pakistan (due to Afghan war), and Clinton years were pretty bad (due to nuclear issue). George W years are again not bad (due to the next Afghan war), but the next Dem government may be obligated to change tracks once again, just to differentiate from previous govt. Kerry, during his unsuccessful Presidential campaign had made various uncharitable statements towards Pakistan (and terrorism).

It is for this reason I say that as a muslim living in the US, I welcome Dems taking back the White House (which is by no means a slam dunk at this point), however, as a person of Pakistani origin I am quite weary of Dems policies. Ofcourse, none of that should matter to you, underthedome, being a red, white and blue American. :-)

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Under Republican administration, Muslims ARE the punching bag! From Ridge to Chertoff, these guys have made muslim profiling acceptable. Heck, Chertoff is a big fan of '24'.

Democrats are concerned about civil liberties of all and have been asking some pretty tough questions as of late.

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

This is a valid point. Joe Biden (D) has supported Pakisatn quite a lot and at one was a proponent of something like a Marshall Plan for Pakistan.

In this pollitical environment, Dems cannot shrug off Pakistan's support just like Republicans couldn't.

Under Bush, Saudi and Saudi lobby did very well because of their strong ties with the royal family. That may change under Demo presidency but geo-politics are such that a wise Dem president would encourage cooperation between allies.

Regarding Israel, it was the Clintons who kept the hawks like BB Nethanyahu out of white house. Yes, BB Nethan whined that he wasn't given time of day in the Clinton white house. Bush (republic & neo-cons) have embraced the hawkish Israeli politicians.

Re: Hillary ‘to announce 2008 plans’

Obama knows he has no chance to win. He wants a higher profile in his party. If he has a pretty decent run, maybe he would be given some bigger role in the next govt..assuming democrats win.

Its a powerplay nothing else. I like Obama, but he has got to be kidding himself if he thinks America is ready to vote him in the office. He is a smart person, and showing that public likes him and trusts him, he is going to position himself to be the a future sec of state or something.

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Perhaps because the fact is that Pakistan is fleecing America? Pakistan has made deals with the enemy (Taliban), allowing them to take refuge, rearm, and rally support in Pakistan. Generals in Afghanistan cannot sit idle forever.

Besides the Taliban every terrorist plot uncovered these days has a connection to Pakistan. What do you think will happen when a plot is successfully executed and the trail leads back to Pakistan?

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

Good point. It makes sense.
Its still a positive thing. Its gonna open doors for African Amercians and we might be able to see one in the White house in 15 years or so.

As of now, Hillary already seems to be a stronger candidate. Media is giving her more coverage too.

Re: Hillary 'to announce 2008 plans'

^ Obama doesn't offically announce he's running until Feb 10th.

How about a ticket that gives us the first female President and the first black Vice President...
