Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

8 pm in DC…7pm in va..not sure about md.

after much consideration and extensive last minute research…I voted for who I thought was best

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Extensive research? What the hell?

THAT’S not how you’re supposed to do it! You’re supposed to vote for whoever has the best campaign ads. Clearly, Obama has the better smile.

dummy :phati:

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Not to bore you guys with deep political stuff (how come this thread is in General and not WA), but lets rest one thing upfront. Neither of them is actually going to bomb Pakistan (yes, I am looking at my personal crystal ball). Its all political posturing. Pakistan government is bombing its own people. Thats enough for now. These candidates just need to appear tough at the moment to win their party's tickets hence the rhetoric.

And I think most folks are focusing on the wrong reason for voting. Vote for who you think is best for you here in the USA. Because, honestly speaking, if you look at foreign policy issues, Democrats as a group are more anti-muslim, anti-Pakistan than Republicans (ok, we can debate that, if you want). However for civil liberties here in the US, Democrats are better. If religious values (abortion, fidelity, marriage etc) are important to you, then again, you will align closer to Republicans, however, they come with their baggage of in-your-face Christianity too.

Between Obama and Hillary, my personal choice is very clear. Its Obama. He is way better in articulation (after 8 years of Bushisms, thats a welcome change), he is more likable, and personable, he will be the first black President (God knows this country needs to break some new ground after 200 years) and he is more compassionate.

Hillary, for all her first-woman-president halo, is very difficult to like. She comes across as a cold-hearted you-know-what. Always calculating, crying-on-the-cue and will be guided too much by lobbyists and pollsters than any solid convictions (yes, its a pro and a con). Not to mention, she will get Bill Clinton back in the White House. For all his phenomenal speaking qualities, the country is probably better off avoiding distractions of the other kind (that Bill brings with him) :)

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

republicans are better for pak…Democ-rats are way too pro india…:chai:

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Again, I beg to differ. To be considered a viable ally and a respected member of international community, Pakistan (and Pakistanis) should try to separate ourselves from the mind-set of you-are-either-with-us-or-you-are-with-India. Thats a lose lose proposition. Pakistan has its own advantages to offer its allies, and they have nothing to do with India. It is not a bi-polar world right now (may be with China and Russia flexing their muscles again, it will become once again), but right now Pakistan has to stand on its own two feet to get respect and not compare ourselves endlessly and needlessly to India at every step of the way.

Although I do agree, that historically, Democrats have a much negative view of Pakistan, compared to Republicans. Make no mistake. Republicans have no love lost for Pakistan either, but they appear more pragmatic about the realities on the ground, and less holier-than-thou (less, not that they don't have it) compared to Democratic presidencies.

At the end of the day, both Republicans and Democrats do what they believe is better for them (i.e. USA), and thats the same thing Pakistanis should do too.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

It all depends on what you consider 'better' for Pakistan. More dependent on US aid and dictatorship ... then yes, Republicans are the way to vote.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

You guys are right, but democrats, in an attempt to prove their foreign policy credentials, shouldn’t try to make Pakistan a scapegoat for what they consider America’s failures elsewhere. America’s direct military involvement, especially for an extended period of time, will not only make it harder for Pak govt. to take on the miscreants, it will further swell the ranks of the extremists.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Faisal, I dont know why you say that dems are more anti-muslim. Hillary has always welcomed Muslims into her world, has visited Pak and ALWAYS celebrates Eids, whether she's residing in the white house or not. IMHO, she is the only candidate who has not only the knowledge but the interest in the Muslim community. She truly knows the peace and beneficience of Islaam and that the "radicals" are not the norm. She has no interest in persecution of an entire country or worshippers of an entire religion because she understands. I dont think that there is any other candidate running that has the level of understanding and empathy that she has. Yes thats only one of the points in the whole presidential race but a really big one IMHO

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

^ I have never met Hillary, so my views of her are based on her appearances on television, hearing her talk and news reports and analysis from a wide variety of sources. She does not come across as empathetic at all. Cold and calculating, yes. May be you know her more and better, so I will leave it at that.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

I wish she had taken a stand when for politics sake she returned the donations when her opponent made an issue out of it, because while her action made her look good to some people, it basically set a wrong precedence.

let me remind you

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9400E3D91031F935A15753C1A9669C8B63

Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday that she would return $50,000 in political contributions received at a fund-raising event sponsored by a Muslim organization based in California.

Mrs. Clinton said she was offended by remarks attributed to members of the organization, the American Muslim Alliance. The group’s president has been quoted as defending a United Nations resolution that he said allowed for the use of armed force by Palestinians against Israel, while other members have been accused of making anti-Semitic remarks.

Mrs. Clinton’s decision to return the money, as well as $1,000 from an official of another American Muslim group, the American Muslim Council, puzzled leaders of both Muslim organizations. The groups acknowledge that they have some members with extreme views on Israel, but say that they are mainstream and oppose terrorism. Officials in the groups yesterday took issue with the characterizations of the remarks.

Members of the groups contribute to Republicans and Democrats alike, and have been courted by various politicians, including Gov. George W. Bush of Texas. He recently met with the American Muslim Council in Michigan, which has a sizable Arab-American population, and received its backing. The council also says it considers Senator Joseph I. Lieberman a friend, and it gave him an award a few years ago.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

…and Obama clears VA! :phati:

That’s the only state I was worried about, really. I’m confident he’ll win in Maryland as well.

2000-something delegates to win the nomination. Obama currently has 1108; Clinton 1136.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

^ Good source to look at.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

you should have seen the lines here in va…a huge democratic turn out. I just hope it will be same come the presidential election.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Well my Dad said we've got long ways to go until the general elections so you can't really tell who will win then. Anything could happen within the next 8-9 months.

So, lemme guess... you voted for Obama?

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

what makes u think that? :D

yes...... i did end up going with obama afterall. :)

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

It was just a guess. I had a 50/50 chance of getting it right lol.

51 delegates for Obama from VA.

Maryland just announced that they'll be keeping the polls open for an extra 90 minutes due to traffic conditions.

I don't think I can wait that long. :<

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

oo and don't taunt me about the "value" of a vote. It's not my fault I was born just 2 months too late to be able to vote this election.

No matter, I'm more concerned with the Congressional elections of 2010 anyways. They're the real culprits. :\

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

PHATI!!! OH NO!!i heard on the radio this morning that those people turning 18 before the general elections can vote for this primary election.

Re: Hillary Clinton vs. Barack Obama

Yes, I know that, silly. :P
I won't be 18 by the general elections. Like I said... 2 months too young.
