Hiking in GTA

Can anybody recommend any good areas/trails to go hiking that are not too far from the Brampton/Mississauga area? Ideally, I would love to hinking on the Bruce Trail, lekin it is just too far. :frowning:

Anything closer to home would be appreciated.

Re: Hiking in GTA

Hiking up and down 401? :cb:

Re: Hiking in GTA

:hoonh: Next you will suggest hiking in and out of Lahore Tandoori house on Gerrard Street. :hoonh:

Re: Hiking in GTA

Bibi, I was just trying to be funny. :-P Though to be honest if someone mentions Toronto, hiking is probably the last thing that comes to mind. There are cities in the west coast where strolling downtown is a hike (like San Fran & Seattle) but east coast is too flat.

If you are into outdoor living, come to where I am. Three tails within five minutes walk from my home. Five minute drive will take you to fifteen more. A twenty minute drive and you can do rock climbing (and not at the wall at some gym) and a thirty minute drive will take you to national park and forests.

Re: Hiking in GTA

I found a trail near Tera Cotta up in Brampton ... looks appealing, although the trail is 4.5 hours long. Obviously, I won't be doing the entire trail.

Re: Hiking in GTA

4.5 isn't bad - thats if you have company.

Re: Hiking in GTA

AJ get your guest room ready I’m a coming over :smokin:

Re: Hiking in GTA

If you go about an hour North, towards Barrie there are some nice big parks where you can walk about. Not sure about hiking on mountains / hills though as most of Ontario is quite flat.

Re: Hiking in GTA

Thanks a lot for sharing information. This summer should be rocking inshallah.

So what kind of shoes or sandles one would recommend for the month of June. I have sporty sandles that I wear in peak summer for hiking and dunes.

Re: Hiking in GTA

^ Good question. I guess wearing regular running shoes will do?

I think I’m gonna attempt the Tera Cotta trail soon. I have company. I will test it out first before letting you know how it is Catty.

Re: Hiking in GTA

Brampton has only three main trails..one is chinguacousy, second is professor's lake and the last one is etobicoke creek... As for mississauga you can check their parks and rec website section. Some of the trails along the waterfront are nice.

I usually go to provincial parks and conservation areas on the weekends and that's where i usually hike..some conservations near brampton include belfountain conservation area...many in milton area like kelso..mount nemo..albion hills conservation area ( i like going there because of the falls).
I am planning to buy a provincial park summer pass this season..will save me lots.

Re: Hiking in GTA

The footware for hiking depends on what kind of a trail it is. If it’s a light trail (clean or paved) then you can probably use your running/cross training shoes. But if the trail is less traveled and might have uneven train, you want to use the shoes that are rigid at the bottom/firm heal, or best a steel shank. You don’t want to twist your ankle in the middle of no where. These shoes are a good investment if you plan to make hiking a habit, but if you are doing it once to check off your summer list, normal shoes would do. Just be careful.

CatWoman, it shows you have a lot of time to kill :hehe:

Zakky wakay, you are always most welcome. My basement is empty these days, it has a room with two beds, bring someone with you

Re: Hiking in GTA

Thanks Mehnaz and Ahmedjee.

I went to one huge trail last year in Milton. Its by 401 and Appleby North, it has got very good trails, some even go through very dark forest type tree herds. There is a lake as well. I can't recall the name of that place.
