Wikipedia links says that it’s a prescribed method of Prophet (saw). May be due to the religious connotations, bao bihari posted it in religion? Not sure.
Regarding the actual topic, this was something new to me. Never heard/saw/experienced it. From the pictures on Wiki, it looks scary
