Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

So…do they represent same thing??

do people see them as similar…as in male and female version of a similar mentality??

since both choose to distinguish their appearance…and are basically making a statement about their beliefs…

In my opinion sometimes in the western world we assume the woman has been forced into wearing this attire and the man has always chose to grow the beard from his own free will.
But nowadays many women adopt this attire of their own free will too so we shud never judge or assume anything without the facts.

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

Distinguish appearance? That depends on where you live. In an Islamic country, this appearance wouldn’t be the odd one out. In a western country, even your skin colour will make you stand out from the general population. So even though hijabis/bearded men might get more curious looks because of their appearance, they certainly won’t be getting the haram kind of attention since no one would find them attractive. :hehe:

As for making a statement :smack: this is one of the biggest misconceptions around! No one’s tryina make any statement, no one’s rubbing anything on your face! Why do muslim men choose to grow a beard in this day n age only to be judged by every other person? Because their purpose in life is to follow the examples of Prophet saw, not to make any kind of statement to the ignorant bunch.

To answer your question, I would say yes they are but men to a greater extent than women.

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

they don't equate. how about walking around in a topi? everywhere.

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

Women sometimes wear hijab only to hide bad hair :)

But I think the equivalent of beard in women is niqaab or burqa, hijab doesn't hide much and is only used as a stylish parda whereas burqa hides everything. No matter what a burqa wearing woman does, no one can question about it or have a doubt about it becoz she wears burqa so she must be very naik.

Same is the case with beard, bearded people find it easy to hide their misdeeds as people think they are very naik.

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

my question was basically about others' perception of the two.......and whether people perceive them to be similar.......

as webmister pointed out.....he thinks that niqaab equates to a bearded guy.......similarly do people equate them at some level or not??

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

There is one thing that I think doesn't need any elaboration i.e. when we talk of beard it is the long junglee kind of beard, not the one grown by elderly. Apart from that, we do see many decent people in short beards.

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

How long is the beard? A fancier, clean one or the longer, traditional type?

Re: Hijabi Woman and Bearded Fellow

lets say...longer cleaner type......
